Membership is huge disappointment

G'day,
We stayed in Coogee last weekend via an IHG membership.
The hotel is now closed until September for refurbishments we understand.
Our disappointment is simple. We paid over $500 for our room, extra $50 for parking per night and no deal offered for breakfast - $38 each.
Unfortunately went on your website to look for friends after our first night only to find a 'Voucher' deal for a Village view room - $289 per night INCLUDING parking and breakfast!
So we paid twice as much each night for an 'ocean view' room which is not a priority for us when you are on the beach.
Big difference and big disappointment after staying with Crown Plaza Coogee many times over many years.
We await your response before posting our review across all platforms.

Welcome to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Hotel Bloomington-Normal, Illinois! Take exit 167 off I 55 and you're in the Heart of Bloomington / Normal on Veterans Parkway. We're close to Central Illinois Regional Airport and Amtrak. State Farm, Country Companies, Growmark and Bridgestone Firestone are all within a mile! Our Hotel is near area attractions and easy access to Rivian Motors - Prairie Aviation Museum - Grossinger Motors Arena - Illinois Fire Juniors Soccer Club - Illinois State University - Wesleyan University - Heartland College - Lincoln College - OSF Saint Joseph Hospital - Carle Bromenn Hospital.
Our Hotel has Meeting Space for 100 and Indoor Heated Pool and Hot Tub! Free Hot Breakfast Buffet included!

Overall good but....

Overall the stay was good. Remodel was happening but that was no concern. In middle of the night my heat stop blowing warm air and started blowing cold. I didn't realize right away. Tried to fix but would not. Felt ill after breathing in the cold air all night and now 2 days later I have missed work due to the illness. Told staff and they said they will address.

5 Star Hotel?

We did not feel that this hotel was a five star hotel. The design was nice but that was it. We were there for a conference and just felt so off with the experience. The AC was not working on our first day. Someone came and tried to assess the situation, eventually the filter of the HVAC was changed at 10PM. We have a 4 yr old child with us and he ended up staying past his bedtime. It was a busy night but this was totally off coming from a 5 star hotel. We ordered room service for breakfast and the price we paid did NOT justify the food served. Lower class hotels can provide better food at a better and reasonable price. There was also parking that cost $65/24hr stay. THE PARKING WAS CHEAPER IF WE WEREN’T HOTEL GUESTS. Shouldn’t it be cheaper for those staying at the hotel? Would definitely not recommend this hotel.

The common areas are VERY impressive. The bed was comfortable. The TV control worked. But the toilet wobbled when I sat on it. There was a burned out bulb in the bathroom. And the desktop was sticky. Not sure what made it sticky. I did not touch it very much after discovering that whatever was placed on it stuck to it. Was also shocked at the appearance of the desk clerks. Apparently there are no grooming or dress standards ... or self pride for that matter. The breakfast was very good, but I was surprised to be charged for it. Was pretty sure that the posting on the web when I made reservations said that breakfast was included in the price. It was not.

Very noisy and needs maintenance

The staff was very polite. Whatever maintenance that has been done on the rooms is of very poor quality and needs to be addressed. There are holes in the doors from changing locks. Paint needs to be applied, holes need to be patched, caulking around the shower is disgusting and water damage is very apparent. There’s a lack of outlets and cords are overflowing from what receptacles are in the room. Definitely overpriced compared to other Holiday Inns I have stayed at and definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Platinum Elite member and stay 90 percent of hotel stays with Holiday Inn or Express. 50+ stays in this year. I booked a room for a single night, gave credit card info and had a confirmation number and all.
I booked this room for a friend who was visiting a family member in the local hospital (hours from home and alone) to be removed from life support and all that goes with it. I felt like doing this for them would be helpful. I wanted to do this for them and to take one small thing off their plate to just focus on what they had to do.
Upon arrival the clerk asked for their credit card and billed them. I immediately called to take care of the charge and was told that can't happen. What an embarrassment I felt. Now I had to reimburse a charge that never should have burdened my friend. Super irritated. Thank God she had a credit card after I told them "I would take care of the room, Just do what you have to do and then try and get some rest ..." No help or understanding from staff or customer service. Definitely not the customer service i was used to with IHG in the past. I did leave a message on the "How was your stay questionnaire" No concern to them.

Horrible

If you need to sleep during your stay, do not book here. Doors were slammed extremely loud at all hours of the night, so loud it was scary. Have to believe it is staff, you can hear the extremely loud slams coming from different rooms/floors.
We were told it's because they're heavy "fire code" doors.
I'm sorry I've stayed at many, many hotels that I would assume all have "fire code" doors and have never been an issue ever before.
Wasn't the cleanlinest either and pretty sketchy area - witnessed a robbery at gas station next door.
