Welcome to the Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown! Take a step back in time in our 19th century historic Guardian Bank Building built in 1896. We feature the largest standard guest rooms in Cleveland with every room being 450 sqft or larger, free Wi-Fi, free Express Start hot breakfast, guest lounge with pool table, arcade games and 24-hour Fitness Center. We are conveniently located two blocks from Cleveland Cliff's, five blocks from Sherwin Williams and PNC is just next door.
Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown is just a short distance of many attractions including: Rocket Arena, Huntington Bank Stadium, Progressive Field, Jack Casino, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, Playhouse Square, and Cleveland State University. The Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown is a five-minute walk from the famous East 4th Street, which features a variety of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment including Iron Chef Michael Symon's Mabel's BBQ, Butcher and Brewer, Blue Agave and the always-rockin' House of Blues.

Worst stay- Not your typical holiday Inn-

I had booked by stay through another vendor.
I had a terrible stay here ( April 3-5, 2025). I checked in at midnight and came to know that they don’t have their own self parking garage. Valet parking was so expensive-almost one third of the room rate! This is ridiculous. I will never come here again. I was forced to take it as the Valet guy said nearby public garage may or may not have space and is about 10 minute walk and does not have in and out privileges. I did not want to risk it at midnight. When we entered the room, it was spacious with tall ceilings ( that’s why it deserves the one star). But the floors were dirty and when I took my socks off and stepped out for a few steps to get into slippers, the floor was sticky! Whew! … Then in the bathroom, there was no body lotion in that small container (Dove brand). It was literally empty no matter how I squeeze it. The phone was broken and I could not call the front desk. It had different room number written on it.
There was no safe locker. The deadbolt was broken. The whole room and entry foyer felt like some 1800s home. When I saw the mattress, I could already see the depressions and When I rested on it it reaffirmed my doubts about the quality. I literally sunk in for 3-4 inches! It was the worst bed I slept on any name brand hotels in the last 15-20 years. The curtain was torn at the top letting the light in (which is next to the busy street btw) and the room was not pitch dark. There was so much vehicle noise and music coming from the streets .
The next day when I went to take bath, the shampoo and conditioner bottles were completely empty. I had to use body wash for the head bath. The breakfast was OK. If you are vegetarian, good luck! At least I eat eggs. No ‘real’ oatmeal. It’s the ready to go oatmeal in pockets-what? No potatoes- so many meat items. Some bread. not so good coffee. Machine made pancakes were not well done and I have to throw them away.
When I left the hotel for the day to visit the university, I told the front desk lady about all the issues (shampoo, body lotion, phone, curtain) and most importantly about the bed. She said she does not have any other room to assign me and could give me a refund if I wanted to check out. I was so tight on time for the next 8 hours, I did not think I can do that. I tried in between meetings to do and I did find some option but I have to comeback all the way again to check out and find parking in the university- which is difficult to get. I decided to suffer another night of misery. When I came back in the evening, the beds were made but the. shampoo, conditioner and body lotion bottles were not replaced - who does that? I had to come down to get those again later. When I complained, the lady did not seem to care and did not even say sorry for the inconvenience. I had to endure another night of torture - poor bed, even more noise than previous night from the streets, broken curtain ring and then wake up to OK breakfast. When I was checking out, I complained to the front desk ( a different person every time), he did not care and didn’t even bother to take his earbuds out to listen to me and didn’t say sorry, didn’t say nothing! Where is the customer service mindset of these folks? Who hires these people?
IHG must spend some money to upgrade this hotel and improve customer service.
Overall, very bad experience, I could have stayed in a better accommodation for a lot cheaper which I will do next time as my kid decided to go to the university there!

Was wrongfully charged

Was wrongfully charged $200 for a (hinge on a door) that we had nothing to do with breaking it, stayed here with my inlaws and was charged, wrongfully, I am an employee of IHG and absolutely know how much a hinge costs and what it takes to install it , we did not break the hinge, in the first place

Walked into hotel around 4 PM and there was no one present at front desk. Waited ~ a minute, then announced my presence. Still no one. Picked up security phone in entry airlock which causes phone at desk to ring, no response. Once again announce my presence and after ~4 minutes a young female appears from behind a partition. This situation was repeated after visiting my assigned room and wishing to ask a question. This time I rang the bell that was present on a lower, obscured portion of front desk and she again eventually acknowledged my presence.
Thee desk personnel was not rude or disrespectful but lacked any sort of responsibility or awareness.
Hotel met my needs (other than the front desk issue).

Disappointing Experience

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with my recent three-day stay at the Holiday Inn St. Louis – Downtown/Convention Center. I was a guest as part of a sorority conference that had been planned well in advance, and I expected far better accommodations and service, especially given the price that was paid.
Throughout the stay, there were several concerning issues. Housekeeping was not automatically provided and had to be requested. On the second night, I asked for a fresh set of towels that never arrived. The bedding in the room was not adequate, and both the shower and the faucet were broken, which caused further inconvenience and discomfort.
In addition, it was clear that the hotel was severely understaffed. On one evening, we attempted to eat in the hotel restaurant and found that only one staff member was working, resulting in excessive delays and limited service. Considering the hotel was notified well in advance of the number of attendees for the four-day conference, better preparation and staffing should have been a priority.
Another major concern was the lack of a complimentary breakfast option. For the cost of the stay, it is reasonable to expect at least a basic continental breakfast, especially during a large, organized event like ours.
Overall, my experience was extremely disappointing and not reflective of the standards typically associated with the Holiday Inn brand. I hope you take this feedback seriously and implement the necessary changes to improve future guest experiences.

Destination fee unjustifiable

The staff were amazing and the room was nice, but the destination fee was not justifiable. $35 per night for the ability to use amenities such as "free" WiFi, "complementary" tea and coffee, the gym (which was not used), the pool (which was closed), international calls (it's 2025 - WiFi calling and inclusive roaming are standard on mobile plans) and room service (for which a service charge is added).
I've travelled the world and have never had to pay such a ridiculous charge for services that are supposed to be free, are unavailable, are unused or are already charged for. Considering that there are useful services missing such as automatic doors to enable you to enter the building with luggage, or even support to get luggage to my room. I had 5 bags and a young child, no help was offered to get our bags in/out of the hotel or room. This was not a good provision of service at all.

First off, Hasina was so great at the breakfast buffet and treated my kids with care. Food was fresh and the whole hotel was nice and clean. Pool was fun for kiddos. Wawa was perfect for snacks, lunch, dinner, etc ;) loved all those things!
Now the staff isn't rude exactly, but also doesn't go out of their way to help you. Driver to the airport drove like a bat out of heck in the rain, scary, especially with small children, and then proceeded to throw our luggage on the ground in puddles, luckily my husband grabbed our computer before he could chuck it. He was punctual to pick us up, so that was nice.
Oh the front desk lady set up the shuttle to the cruise terminal perfectly for us (but we were a little nervous bc we tried to ask about car seats before arriving and they couldn't give us info). It totally worked out though without car seats.
They didnt prepare our room for the pull out couch by giving us linens in the room. Very stingy on extra pillows or blankets (we have two kids who each need a pillow), told us we had to wait till 11 to store our luggage (it wad 10:45). Checked in at 1255 and charged us for early check in (have the fancy credit card platinum thing, that is supposed to be a perk, but they said we could check in at 1pm early for free).
Overall nothing bad happened and the staff answered our requests, but just a tad bit nitpicky and seemed like they weren't happy with working there. Id go back if i had to, but ill personally try other hotels in the fll area next time to see if one fits us better.
