Descent hotel but appears to be a criminal hotbed!

Our trucks were broken into and items stolen. Hotel has no security and no working cameras of the outside parking lot. We reported the break in to management and asked to see security footage of the parking lot. They told us the cameras haven't worked for years! They told us this type of stuff does not 'usually' happen, however we talked to another guest and they said their trucks were broken into the night before and another guests trucks were broken into a few days earlier!! This hotel parking lot seems to be a hotbed of criminal activity with nothing being done about it by hotel management. Are they in on it? We went to get new locks from a local Walmart during the day and a quarter of the parking lot was cautioned taped with a tarp over a car with a murder scene and the body still in the car! The hotel stay was fine per IHG standards, but man you better take everything you own up to your room or it may be stolen. My employee lost a $5,000 camera. Stay AWAY!

Staffing could use some work

We were here for a dance convention/competition and while the hotel was nice, I don't think they were fully prepared. The hotel knew that this event was happening (hotel was completely booked) and yet still only had minimum workers, in my opinion. The bar only had 1 person working the entire weekend. The front desk lady on Sunday morning was extremely rude. Our room keys also stopped working twice so had to go and get new ones. Pernella was our breakfast waitress one morning and she was the best, nicest person there!!!

Little to no sleep, but we dealt with it

My husband and I were in town for the weekend. The room was clean which was great. Getting sleep however, was awful. Who ever was above us was banging around and zipping across the floor in what sounded like the office chair. The water in the shower was cold and after being kept up all night this was not pleasant.
The staff at the check in were pleasant and helpful. Having a kitchen was nice to keep left overs in or warm them up.
Though I don’t know if we will ever stay here again and risk spending a lot of money to not sleep, it is an ok hotel. I would ask for the highest floor though.

2 versus M2

Where to start? We have stayed at Crown Plaza many times and for the most part have been satisfied with our stay. However, on this occasion, (we checked in on 3/09/25 for a 6 day stay), it started at the time we checked in. We were assigned the room 224. We have always wondered what the deal was for the floors 1, M1, 2 and M2. Well we found out when we looked for room 224 on floor 2. We walked around the entire floor, which covers most of a city block I think, only to determine that it was nothing but ball and conference rooms. Now let me stop here and point out that we are both almost 80 years old and I walk with a cane. So we made our way back down to the desk clerk to have him point out that the floor was M2 not 2. I think my comment at the time was, "how were we supposed to know that". Now I can understand training a new desk clerk but it looks like one of the first things that you would point out would be the difference between 1 and M1 and 2 and M2. Well he got to practice on two 78 and 79 year old people. Did I point out that I walk with a cane? In any event the bell service staff had given up on us and was heading back to the elevator with our luggage when we finally arrived on M2. Only one other thing about where our room was. With the exception of one other room we were as far away from the elevator as you can get. So each time we left the hotel we walked literally a city block just to get to the elevator.
Ok now for the room. In our previous stays at Crown Plaza our rooms have been adequate. However, this room suffered several problems. One, the commode seat was so loose it was ready to fall off. Assuming it gets cleaned, the maid service should have easily noticed it. I checked, the nut was there and just needed to be tightened. In addition, 2 of the 4 fluorescent bulbs in the bathroom were out. Again, easily noticeable by the maid service. I have glaucoma and my wife needs cataract surgery so it was almost impossible for me to shave and her to put on makeup.
In summary, we would stay at this hotel again, just for the convenience if nothing else. However, this stay was sub-par to our previous stays. I hope this is not a trend for this hotel.
PS: Our room was extremely noisy at night but I fault us for that. We should have requested the tower which would have been a lot less noisy. Thank you

Most things were fine

Most things were fine. But I am furious that a person from housekeeping knocked on our door and then opened the door to see if the room was still occupied! I was in the hall walking toward my room, but could have been sleeping or in the shower! I expect privacy in my room and not to have a housekeeper peeking into my room to see if we left yet.

Hotel smelt like Cannabis, could not get away from it, even our room smelt bad due to people smoking cannabis everywhere! Not a good stay. Breakfast was horrible, pancakes hard and sausage no taste. Will not stay here again!

Acceptable, but has way more potential

We stayed here due to the young age of the hotel and the hope of using the hot tub at night after being sore from hiking Sequoia National Park. When we arrived, we went outside the view the pool and hot tub area. However, the hot tub has been filled in with concrete and no longer exists. We mentioned to the front desk our disappointment with this as this hotel advertises themselves as a “Sequoia Gateway” hotel and therefore expects lots of guests who have spent their days outdoors hiking. The worker said the chemicals were too expensive to maintain the hot tub so it has been removed. There is now only a pool which was very cold in March even though it is heated.
The breakfast food was fine, but the worker was slow to restock items that had ran out.
The room was clean but the mattress dipped in toward the middle which was uncomfortable.
This property allows you to sleep at night and have something to eat in the morning, but the little things that could elevate them above the rest in terms of customer experience just seem to be missing.

No swimming pool

Rude staff

The person checking us didn’t even speak to me, even when I asked a question he acted as if he was put out by having to answer for me. He also didn’t seem very knowledgeable of what was being asked. The following morning the staff didn’t have anything to say or offer when I asked for a glass of water.

Left slightly dissapointed

On the surface it’s an absolutely beautiful building, the atrium the restaurants and bars, are all stunning, but unfortunately there were a lot of little things that made up for a slightly disappointing experience.
The place is a maze, I know it’s a hard one to fix, but every person we ran into was lost. The pool, the bars the restaurants and the rooms didn’t seem to connect well, which for a resort style place is really difficult. After 3 days we never really got the hang of it, and I don’t think we were alone.
The pool area, although looks glamorous in photos needed tlc and lacked life. The app didn’t really work, and you couldn’t order drinks through it, payment system failed. The muisc was a very weird mix, some dance, old school, pop, classical, it was very confused. The atmosphere wasn’t really pleasant, not fun nor relaxing it was just confused.
The breakfast service was odd as well. One day the breakfast food came out within 15 minutes the next day seamed like 45 mins - same time same amount of business. The same with coffee. One day great the next day very milky and off. More training needed. You got a sense that the staff really didn’t enjoy working there. The rooms were nice, comfy bed, but hard pillows.
The noise was pretty bad, you heard every person coming and going through the halls, even though the door looked extra thick. You would get the 6am people leaving, and the 2 am people coming from the bar.
It’s not cheap the intercon, and I would be more likely to stay at Jacklope or the RACV in cape shank next time.
Audrey’s is ok as a restaurant but once again probably better ones in the area for the same price.
The spa again ok, but there is also better in the area. Lots of competition needs to improve at that provide point.
