Charged for a Points Stay

I am a Diamond Elite member and have been a Rewards member since it was Holiday Inn Priority Club, back in the 90's. In all this time, NEVER have I been charged for a Rewards Points Stay. I was shocked to get my bill in the morning that showed a $25 Accomodation charge. The bill totaled out at $27.56 with taxes. I think this is a disgrace.

Poor check in experience

On check in, despite this being a rewards night, and therefore fully paid, they tried to insist on a £100 pre-authorisation in case its used the bar or restaurant. I explained we wouldn't as we had other plans. I booked this through the IHG, and am a diamond elite member. This wasn't really recognised as you would expect. After asking for a manager, who then said they needed the deposit in case I broke anything in the room. Finally after 30 minutes they gave me the key to the room. I have written to the GM twice, but received no response. Not an experience I would care to repeat. If they would have let me change hotels at this point I would have gone to the Crowne Plaza instead.

Smelly

Our room smelled like a wet dog. Tried to open the window and air it out but the window wouldn't open.
We were told the airport shuttle would depart at 5:05am. We arrived to the lobby at 5:01am, just to be notified that it had already departed. We had to pay for an Uber to take us there instead.

Going through Renovstions? Need to renovate the employees

I arrived at the hotel. Was asked my name and they pulled my reservation. The front desk said “how does 2 queen beds sound?” I had reserved a king and I told him “so my king reservation isn’t valid?” He told me they didn’t have one on an upper floor due to renovations and I had to ask about a lower level king which he finally agreed. Clearly the hotel didn’t care about my reservation. I was not greeted or thanks for being an IHG rewards member. The room smelt like it was cleaned with bleach and laundry soap to cover up a smoke smell. The bathroom sink smelt like the Ptrap had a clog and wasn’t clean, the shower drain hardly drained for a shower there was no cover on the sprinkler head in the ceiling so could see into the ceiling, main door had about an inch gap so I could actually see in the hallway from inside my room.
There must have been some big sporting event around as there were plenty of kids running up at down hallways all hours and the hotel didn’t seem to care, those families parents didn’t care about there kids being out and around, and clearly didn’t when I was leaving the parking lot running out in front of my truck. I couldn’t even eat breakfast because the amount of kids eating and running around so I skipped it. When I checked out the front desk later slowly staggered up as if she wasn’t happy to be there and asked “you want a receipt? What room?” No courteousness of any kind. For a military discount for 1 night stay over $200 this was not worth the stay and will look elsewhere next time in this area.

Not the best!

On arrival the front desk staff was friendly and got us checked in quickly. Once we got to our room we found our sheets on the bed were not clean. We found several hairs and crumbs in the sheets. There was food under the sink by the bathroom.
Housekeeping came to change our sheets and while pulling the old sheets off two socks fell onto the floor.
The room was older and needed updates.
Breakfast was good with several options.
I usually love this hotel chain, but this one doesn’t live up to expectations.

Beds were very comfortable

Staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. Food from bar was very fresh and bartender was friendly. Pool area way clean and lots of room. We were given free coffee our morning of checkout.
