Not up to holiday inn standards

I spent the Easter weekend at the wigston holiday inn and it was a complete disappointment and really ruined my weekend. I was there with my family that incl 2 young kids.
My main concern overall with this hotel is their lack of customer service and cleanliness. The first night we noticed some marks on the bed (prob pen marks etc) and hair in the shower but said nothing.
The second night we were out most of the day came to a room that had the beds made but was not clean. my daughter decided to grab a croissant as we were leaving breakfast and proceeded to sit on the bed to eat it. Croissants leave crumbs, when we came back to the room the beds still had croissant crumbs all over the bed as well as in the bed where my daughter did not go when she was eating. My only assumption is that whoever came to clean the room just put the duvet cover back in place and didn’t actually bother cleaning the room at all. In all the time we were there we were 90% sure the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned just restocked with towels and tissue. I complained that night and was offered points as compensation. I explained to the night manager that night I am not looking to get anything out of her I really just want housekeeping to do their job as I have young kids and do not want to come back to a room I have to clean especially since we were coming back to the room so late.
The next day they cleaned the room really well and changed the sheets. (The type of cleaning I expect from a holiday inn, so they do have it in them!)
On our last night at the hotel, we came back to a room that was undone. No one had come in to clean the room, I was questioned on whether I left a do not disturb sign, rightfully so, but I did not. I got back to the hotel past 11, tried to speak to the receptionist and was given a blank look like I was speaking a foreign language, I went back to my room after which one of the people who was at reception came to my room and offered to move me to a different room which I feel was a bit too late after treating me like they don’t understand what I’m saying, regardless I could not take him up on the offer as that would mean moving everything in our room to another. They at least changed the towels for us and took the ones we used earlier away.
I am extremely disappointed with the staff and the service especially cleaning service at the holiday inn wigston. I expected a 4 star hotel but got less than a 2. I would not return to this hotel after all the stress I felt staying there. It ruined a weekend that was supposed to be relaxed.

problem with late check out

we requested and were granted a 2pm check out but the cleaning person kept knocking on the door and interrupting a business call (3 times) after being told we would be checking out at 2pm......this is not acceptable

The hotel is just ok but the staff is grumpy

The bed was comfortable but the pillows were hard as rocks. The shower had good pressure and hot water but towels were thin. The room was freezing despite adjusting the thermostat, but there was a wool blanket in the closet. The front desk staff never responded to my texts for directions from Milano Centrale. They knew I was an IHG rewards customer but I was not greeted as such. My requests were not honored except for bed size. The front desk staff acted as if was an imposition help in any way, and didn’t wanna to answer questions such as ‘do I turn right or left when I leave the hotel to go X?’ Or ‘do you email receipts?’
In any case retraining is obviously needed.

Hotel clean and in excellent condition. Night desk staff professional and friendly. Morning desk clerk not so much. Breakfast totally inedible. Eggs hard rubbery chunks, bisquits extremely hard and cinnamon rolls hard and dry from sitting uncovered under heat lamp. No cartons of milk available for cereal. Definitely not the normal HIE breakfast

Staff was semi friendly, the desk clerk assumed we had been there before, he gave no direction what so ever, he didn't even talk to us rxcept for asking for my ID. We went out for a little whie came back in and there was a cocjroach crawling down the curtain. I had just left a hotel for that becaue they were infested. By this time I did not have the energy to confront the front desk about hte issu, i was so upset, I paid over $200 to share a room with cockroaches. I hava a vido of the cockroach crawling down the curtain will have to uplaod later.

Difficult to find in the dark. The room wasn't bad but don't count on the kitchen. Lighting setup is kind of weird and I ended up in the dark while showering. I wouldn't spend days here.
