Hotel near Six Flags Great America and Naval Station Great Lakes Welcome to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Waukegan IL. We are less than 6 miles from Six Flags Great America and Naval Station Great Lakes . We welcome navy graduation participants and their families each week. Join us on graduation day for a luncheon to celebrate your graduates achievements. Don't forget to fuel up with our Express Start Hot Breakfast Bar before heading to the graduation or Six Flags Great America. Conveniently located within a 5-mile radius of local corporate offices, including Abbott Laboratories, Abbvie Inc, Cardinal Health, Amazon, and Medline. Our shuttle will even get you to and from the navy base on graduation day. Hours of operation are 6:15am-12:30pm on graduation days only, contact the hotel for reservations. Our hotel features newly redesigned breakfast bar and dining room. We also offer free WIFI, parking and hot breakfast . Our new fitness equipment comes equipped with personal TV's attached. Each guest room is equipped with a microwave, mini-refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker, 55" adjustable mount TV, plenty of electrical outlets and USB charging ports. Standard rooms feature a chaise seating area and our suites have a pullout sofa bed.

Hard bed and maintenance issues

This room did not meet my expectations of a typical Holiday Inn Stay. The beds were either too firm or too old because I left there with a terrible back pain. The couch was broken and just caused guests to sink in; therefore, it was not possible to sit on the couch or make it into a bed. The freezer door was broken off, so everything in the refrigerator froze. My husband recommend against the breakfast because he said it didn't look appetizing. On a higher note, my kids enjoyed the pool and the staff was helpful.

Would recommend this hotel to friends. Easy access on and off the interstate. Did not use the pool or the fitness room, as time was limited. We plan to use the facilities upon our return.

REGULAR SUITE INHABITANTS

AFTER TRYING SEVERAL HOTELS IN THE GURNEE/WAUKEGAN AREA, THE HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS IS OUR FAVORITE FOR THE PRICE. THE STAFF IS KIND AND CONSIDERATE. THE BEDS ARE ALWAYS COMFORTABLE BUT THE SOFA BEDS ARE NOT COMFY AS COUCHES!! THE PILLOWS SINK INTO THE FRAME AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO SIT COMFORTABLY. EVERYTHING ELSE MEETS OUR EXPECTATIONS VERY NICELY, BUT SINCE WE DO PAY FOR A SUITE, COMFORTABLE FURNITURE TO SIT AND READ, WATCH T.V., ETC. WOULD BE NICE.

Navy graduation-Just like home

First rate service! We went to this hotel to attend my son's Navy boot camp graduation. We didn't want to stay in Chicago. The staff was very knowledgeable about the graduation process and provided a shuttle to and from the base, although we chose to drive. They even had a hotdog lunch for graduates and their family after graduation. I can't say enough about how happy I am with the friendliness of the staff. My daughter got burned by hot water making oatmeal and the kitchen staff got us ice for her hand and trays for us to be able to carry our food to our room. When it was time to shut down breakfast they made sure we had everything we needed before they put it away. The pool and hot tub were clean and perfect for unwinding. There is a Wal-Mart and places to eat right near the hotel so it was the perfect spot. Getting to and from the base and airport was simple to navigate. (watch for the tolls)

Great location for my business travel

I love staying at HI and HI Express facilities, however the beds are uncomfortable. The linens are fine, the rooms are clean, the amenities are perfect for short overnight stays, but the beds are like sleeping on slabs of stone. That's fine if you prefer the most severe level of 'hardness' but for me, a pillow topper / memory foam mattress would go a long way in satisfaction. It's tough going from a a home mattress that is firm yet has a layer of pillow softness and 'give' while still offering support to that of a hotel mattress that is like a slab of stone. Also, (and this may sound petty) I would love firmer pillows rather than 4 -6 pillows of fluffed feathers that give no neck support and deflate almost immediately.
I typically travel alone for business and while a one night stay is just OK, over time these one night stays add up and I really hate tossing and turning all night on a bed that is rock hard and pillows that have no form or support.

I was troubled to hear about your lack of sleep due to the firmness of our mattresses and to soft pillows. I will look into a solution for your next visit.

Get it Right at Check In!

I am rating this low because of service -
During my first night's stay at about 5 AM, I was awakened to someone entering my room claiming that they had just been checked-in to the same room. Apparently, when I checked in at the front desk the evening before, the attendant did not properly check me in. This is a cardinal sin for a Hotel Chain. Front desk needs to get its act together! No apologies or calls from the front desk. Next morning the front desk attendant just shrugged it off. I am very disappointed as an IHG Rewards Club Member.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience! I want to apologize for having someone walki into your room and the inconvenience it caused you. Also, I want you to know that I am really disappointed to hear about the front desk response to your issues. Both of these matters are unacceptable and I will personally deal with it as both employees need to learn that how these types of issues effect our guests. I want you to know that we really care about our guests and take great pride in delivering a great experience at our hotel. I hope that you will come back and visit us, so you can get a true experience of our hotel!

As a IHG member we have used this hotel twice now. We usually stay with relatives when visiting Midlothian but if we need a room this will be our choice. Clean,quiet, good breakfast and a good value.
