Long Weekend in Southport / Oak Island

The hotel looks like a newer hotel on the outside but on the inside it is dated. I will begin with the BIGGEST ISSUE. The hotel elevator was out of service our entire stay. Our room was on the third floor with no other options for our type of room. The stairway was HOT all of the time. My 8 month pregnant daughter had to climb three flights of hot chairs each time that we left the hotel. No staff member could give us an update. One would say the part was in and just waiting for the repair people, while another didn't have a clue.
The room itself was not up to the quality of the Holiday Inn chain. The room was not clean, and headboard had holes/picks in both of them. There were cables plugged into surge protectors which looked hazzardous if you had small children. The floors were not clean.
Breakfast was the exact same thing every single day. Exactly, no variation at all.
I usually do not write a hotel review but there were enough issues that I thought it was best to do so. But I read hotel reviews prior to booking any hotel and hope that others find this review helpful when booking a hotel in the Southport / Oak Island area. The area is lovely though so I highly recommend a visit just stay somewhere else.

Valet Service

Valet service was poor. There was no valet at the stand twice when I needed my car for meetings in town, and the front desk would have to call to track him down. The front desk would then then tell me that "he was taking somebody somewhere." I'm still not sure exactly what that meant-- I didn't realize the valet also served as a driver.

Best thing is the location . Beds were hard and room was hot . Didn't get a fan until our 2nd night which thankfully drowned out the sound of the generator outside our room running through the night . Breakfast was limited but okay for a budget hotel

DO NOT STAY!

I will not be able to stay at this property again.
When I checked in, I had a strange vibe in the lobby. My room had a bleach smell which is comforting but I found the bed skirt to be hanging on the floor and a sock stuck behind the headboard and in-between the mattress. There was no soap in the room, only shampoo and conditioner and an empty metal rack inside the shower.
The caution tape covering the walk space next to the elevator was a tad unsettling. Why was it there? Are they under construction? Some signs as to why it's cautious would be nice.
The carpet was stained and gross inside the elevator.
Last but not least, there was a chicken bone on our hallway floor from the time we checked in Saturday at 5pm and still there when we left at 10:45am the next day. Why? Why would a chicken bone be laying the hallway? Very gross....stay away from here unless they get a 100% remodel and attentive staff.

It was difficult to enjoy the large rooms because of uncleanlinesses & The king size bed sunk in the middle. The shower flooring looked dirty, the bathroom linens had human hair wedged into the fabric - the complimentary shampoo was empty - the shower felt like a trickle

Bring your ear plugs!

We stayed one night at this hotel as it was midway for a two day drive. Little did we know that the railroad tracks run near the hotel and have trains running round the clock. The walls in the rooms transmit a lot of sound room-to-room and between noisy neighbors and train horns every two hours throughout the night, this was one of our worst experiences in an IHG property in a very long time. If you plan on staying in Dalhart, Texas, make a point to pick a place that isn't on the railroad line. If you have a choice, keep driving.

Terrible service

Front desk was rude. Was told early check in for IHG member . Reservation said free breakfast. Neither of these are true. No early check in and no free breakfast very dissatisfied with whole experience. Plus room never got comfortable even with air on

Rude and no Cinnamon Roles

Our flight was late and we tried to call 15 times to see if there was a shuttle and to ensure that our reservation was not cancelled. On the 15 call, someone finally answered - 2:00 AM. When we asked why Veronica did not answer the phone, she said she was busy - very rudely.
Also, at breakfast, there were no Cinnamon roles. First time ever at the HI Express without Cinnamon roles. Always look forward to that guilty pleasure.
