Gone Downhill

This was a return visit for us. We had stayed here 8 years earlier and enjoyed it very much, but this time around the hotel was in need of many renovation and seemed to lack any experience of leisure. The bedding did not seem fresh and toiletries, hygiene products (toilet paper) was never replenished without request. The staff were friendly and helpful, but seemed overwhelmed and did not have the means or training to meet the needs of myself or many other guests that I encountered in passing. I would not recommend this if you are looking for anything more than a place to lay your head. I was never compensated for any of the amenities missing or inconveniences we encountered.

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites is located in the heart of all things that brings you to Murray, UT.
We are the nearest hotel from Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT, and less than 20 miles from the internationally acclaimed "greatest snow on earth" at Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude and Alta ski resorts. We have it all. We are only a short 14 minute walk from the Murray Central Transportation Center with direct access to Salt Lake International Airport, Downtown Salt Lake City via UTA Frontrunner and TRAX trains. We are 6 miles from Mountain America Exposition Center and 8 miles from Delta Center and just minutes from premier shopping, dining and entertainment and all the adventures that Salt Lake City, the Wasatch Mountains and the Salt Lake Valley has to offer.
Whether you are here for business or leisure, The Holiday Inn Express and Suites is a favorite for visitors to Murray and look forward to becoming your favorite too.

Hotel Needs Attention

Non-stop dripping or tapping sounds between the walls kept me awake. Ceiling damage (looks like due to water) was repaired in two areas but left unfinished. Air conditioning made room either too cold or too hot, even though thermostat was set. Plastic shield between guests and staff was dirty (don't think it has ever been cleaned) and it had scotch tape remnants from taking down signs but not removing the tape! Not a good way to greet guests as that is your first impression.

Breakfast not ready, poor staff attitude

At 6:05am I went downstairs to get coffee and breakfast and it was dark, no food was ready. Coffee was ready. When I asked the front desk associate about it, he said "he didn't know he was supposed to be here". I asked for the manager's phone number and it was given to me, however I left two messages and never received a call back. The evening clerk looked put out by admitting us. Very disappointed.

Simple Guest Service

This facility is missing the simple art of welcoming guests. Both at check in and check out, the staff was beyond indifferent, no welcome, no we appreciate your staying with us, zip. Further, when checking at about 5;30 pm, peak check in time, the two staff on duty were in the office talking. Totally ignoring guests trying to check in... The UPS agent arrived, entered the office, chatted with staff and left. I followed the UPS agent, requested check in service and was told to, hang on .Eventually a staff member wandered out, checked me in... with no greeting, no apology. Next challenge was elevator, one of two was out of service. Hotel was full, cutting elevator service from two to one dramatically increased wait times. No explanation by desk staff, no apology for inconvenience, rather deal with the wait time.
PARKING: Hotel does have parking but it is challenging because the covered part forces you to navigate building beams, There is additional parking at a lower level, but lighting and access is difficult.
Given the limited number spaces at round level, why would Staff be parking at ground level, taking premium spaces from guests.

There is a level of indifference and arrogance at the staff level that is offensive. Guests provide jobs for staff... no guests... no job... Some reflection on the value of basic customer service, a genuine attitude of care and concern, some demonstration of appreciation a guest selected this hotel would be delightful. Guests have the ultimate choice, guest will stay where their patronage is welcome, they will network with friends on where to stay in Houston. Staff has a simple choice, offer competitive service and satisfaction or folks will just stay where these basic elements are provided.

They changed my reservation from a king to a queen without my knowledge when I called and canceled two of my nights. The hotel was packed from what seemed to be a family reunion. I don't recommend. No recognition for IHG club members.

this hotel was about 15 mins away from where i needed to be. the rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included with my room, the front desk lady made me feel welcomed and it wasnt too far of a drive from other attractions in the area

Wheelchair needed

Overall attention could be added to give guest a better experience. There could have been a wheelchair for helping with family members who are immobile. Price was a pretty much double what it should have been. I was not provided a receipt for my first day. Also for the duration of my stay the TV was cracked across the screen.

Nice Rooms, No Breakfast

The rooms here are fairly large. My room was clean and comfortable. I really like having an armchair and ottoman to sit and read. This was my second stay at this property and my room on this stay smelled like cigarette smoke. The entire 3rd floor smelled. I noticed it as soon as I got off the elevator. Yuck. The staff was friendly, but both times I had prepaid for breakfast and I had to ask for the voucher. It seems like that should be something the hotel should think of including when I get my key. Speaking of the breakfast, it's kind of a joke. I mean, the food itself was decent, but it takes way too long because it's a restaurant in the lobby that provides the breakfast, so you have to sit and wait for the 1 guy working to come take your order then go cook your breakfast. On this stay the 1 guy wasn't even there when I went down (extra early because I knew how long it takes) to get breakfast, so that was a waste of $10 (I prepaid for breakfast). I ended up just leaving and getting McDonald's on the way to work. If I come back to this area I will choose a different hotel.

Location is in the heart of downtown. Overall experience was mixed but would recommend to travelers on a budget. Amenities/facilities need updating but otherwise for a quick one or two night stay, the hotel does the job.
