The staff and service was great. But the hotel is dirty: carpets in the hallways and the room, stained ceiling, sticky and dirty microwave, dirty bathroom. The hotel has to close for renovations.

This is by far the most disappointing stay I’ve had at a Holiday Inn property. I selected this hotel as I was in town for a major medical education conference for 4 nights and the host hotel blocks had filled up too quickly. The location is indeed next to lots of construction but I understand St. Louis is almost constantly under construction. Parking is free next to the hotel but there were not many spots. The rest were catty corner in a paid parking lot. The inside of the property was nice at first glance and the front desk staff was polite. When I got to my room, however, it was very warm and muggy. I checked the thermostat which was clearly very old and had no AC or heat designations but was reading 80+ degrees so I tried to slide the temperature over to the 60s and almost as soon as I touched it the unit fell off the wall. I was told back at the front desk that they would send up the engineer so I went to grab the rest of my things and waited. Nearly an hour and no engineer. I went back down and this time they said the engineer/ maintenance person had left for the day (and seemed surprised by this as they called over the walkie a few times with no response). They instead moved my room to one that was much cooler. The room was nice looking, with fresh sheets and towels. It was an inner room that overlooked the pool, so no natural light coming in, and because folks on the pool deck would be able to see in, the curtains were closed our whole stay for privacy. I looked around the room for information about where to find breakfast or perhaps room service since I didn’t see a breakfast nook and knew the hotel restaurant only was open on the weekend for breakfast….but given we had paid for daily breakfast through my IHG member offers there must have been somewhere else for regular hotel breakfast. There was not. I went back down and asked and they apologetically informed me that breakfast was only available on the weekend and that I would be getting a discount on the stay as a result of the miscommunication. Also room service does not exist. On the Saturday I went for the breakfast the first time there were two staff members inside the “sports bar” area, a man who seemed to serve as maybe security and taking payments? And a lady who had on an apron. Prior to greeting we were told the buffet was $12 a piece. I said we had already paid for breakfast, so they said we needed to get a coupon from the front desk (which was not told to us prior), so we did and we were each handed a paper slip with the room number on it which the man took and pointed to the buffet area. The buffet was a basic mix of eggs, biscuits, potatoes, bacon, plus cereal and yogurt and toast. There was coffee, orange juice, and we think cranberry juice (both juices were devoid of sugar and tasted watered down). All the plates and utensils were plastic/ paper. The food was bland and unremarkable, and we were not made aware of any salt and pepper. Which brings an interesting point…the one “waitress” seemed uninterested in checking in on us or serving us anything or offering anything. We didn’t know ketchup, salt, pepper, or hot sauce existed (as there was none on the tables) until an older woman came in with her ticket and was escorted to a table, brought a salt and pepper set and a cup of juice. We had not been given that same courtesy but dismissed it thinking perhaps the lady was well known, until a small family clearly visiting STL was also shown to a table, and automatically given a set of salt/ pepper shakers, ketchup, and hot sauce. Several people who were part of the same conference I was, with business professional wear and conference badges, were treated like we were. I thought that was rude, unprofessional, and potentially discriminatory given the demographic of the people she did assist and all of us that she did not (all are minorities). Every night was painfully clear this was an old hotel because I could hear every conversation, toilet flush, cell phone alarm, and closing door around us. The walls were paper thin. This is outside the usual people being loud in the halls despite quiet hours, but I wasn’t anticipating such a loud experience at night. Each day I came back from my conference the room had not been made up nor towels replaced. Housekeeping was something you had to request before 8am, despite there being daily housekeeping advertised. I had to ask twice for additional washcloths halfway through the stay, and then we had to ask for an additional toilet paper roll towards the end! Additionally, every single ice machine in the hotel was either off or out of order (we checked each floor except the top floor because it was getting ridiculous at that point). My partner had sprained his ankle earlier in the day while walking the city so wanted to ice it but could not - there isn’t even a freezer we could’ve used to create an ice pack, so he used a cold water bottle instead.
I would not recommend anyone stay here. This hotel needs more staffing and work put into making the stay a pleasant and seamless one. The lack of staff was blatant and the effects (not having daily housekeeping and thus running out of clean towels or toilet paper, not having daily breakfast despite paying for it, not having someone available to fix things immediately) made the stay uncomfortable and not worth the money. The only redeeming quality was the front desk staff that did try to make it better. There are too many problems here for me to not say anything, with the hopes someone higher up will work to improve this hotel.

Very disappointed in the value of this hotel. Maybe I have come to expect more from IHG (I just finished a stay in an IHG hotel in Minnesota, and already have stayed in an IHG hotel 4 times this year alone). My complaints about this specific hotel in Rockford:
For the cost, with no breakfast included. This helped it fall way below a a good price.
The desk clerk on the first night was below standard. One clerk was the typical kind and helpful. But of the three there at the time of my stay, she was the only one that was of expected courteousness.
The water pressure was horrible. It wasn't just the shower head, which I adjusted as best I could. It wasn't just the time of the day - It didn't matter if it was in the day, night, or morning. It was the toilet and shower. Low, low pressure.
The doors were loud. I once stayed in a hotel in the city for a wedding years ago. That is what the sound of the doors reminded me of. I can't blame it on those who were staying. The people themselves weren't noisy - it was the doors.
I would never stay at this hotel again if I came to Rockford, Illinois.

The prior hotel, Costa Baja, was a tired and somewhat run-down hotel as I had stayed there prior on business. It was refreshing to find that IHG had purchased and upgraded everything at this property. I will return.

Fresh, clean and uncomplicated, the Holiday Inn Express Edmonton Downtown hotel offers competitive business travel rates. We know what business travelers want when they travel, seven meeting rooms with our hidden gem City View Ballroom seat up to 160 people, and we’ll even handle your catering needs. We have free high-speed, wired, and wireless internet access throughout the hotel. There’s also a 24-hour business centre, and we include our complimentary hot breakfast buffet and easy access to the Continental Restaurant and the Coffee Shop in the hotel.
Also, 90% of our rooms feature a balcony: additional amenities includes steam rooms, gym & Swimming Pool. We are in the heart of downtown and a 5-minute walk to several government offices of Alberta; Enbridge is only two blocks away, and we are steps from the ATCO offices. The closest (LRT) underground Transit is one block away. We are within easy access to The University of Alberta, and the Shaw Conference Centre is only a 4-minute drive. If you are attending a concert or a big-ticket event, we are within walking distance of Rogers Place.
It’s just a meh place, hallways carpet and walls are all beat up and need to be painted and carpet replaced There’s queen size fitted sheets on the king size bed which was very annoying because the corners kept rolling off the bed The pool is salt water and not chlorine, the tiles felt dirty and slimy, also the pool and hot tub were way smaller than the photos online made it look, continental breakfast was ok, pancake machine was good but the sausages were ice cold and the eggs are powdered eggs, I would not recommend and I would not visit again

When reservation was made we were told that the entire gym, pool and jacuzzi would be open over the Easter holiday and were not. The new beds are of poor quality and very noisy as the have a thin metal frame around them, Edges of mattress has a metal ridge around it and digs into leg when sitting on edge of bed.

Not a good experience at this hotel. No Aircon working, showers run hot and cold, noisy neighbours with no soundproofing between rooms. No sleep, too hot and lack of any resolution or response from the hotel. We were told they could have moved us if we had come down to reception at 5am? Unacceptable. I would avoid this hotel, there are plenty of competitor hotels that are evenly priced which are better.

After being a guest at this hotel for over 30 years, I had a very bad experience and I want to share it because I'm going to give them another chance this week. From the moment I arrived and saw that no one came out to help me with my bags, I said something was wrong. The moment the management staff told me, "We don't have anyone to help you," it was that simple. I had to carry all my luggage up to my room, then get out and drive my car to the parking lot without anyone bothering to ask if I needed help. I never thought I'd have to report poor service at these facilities, but the truth is, it's true. And when I checked out, the exact same thing happened to me, but in reverse. I called to ask for help, and guess what happened. They told me there was no one to help me at the moment. I'm arriving at this hotel this week. One bad experience can't ruin 30 years of good service. I'll let you know how it went and if they changed my mind.

The smell of cigarettes was so bad and kept me and my family up most the night and then the next night somebody pulled the fire alarm and there was no customer service from staff offering any benefits or compensation for two nights of messed up sleep.
