Welcome to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Hotel Bloomington-Normal, Illinois! Take exit 167 off I 55 and you're in the Heart of Bloomington / Normal on Veterans Parkway. We're close to Central Illinois Regional Airport and Amtrak. State Farm, Country Companies, Growmark and Bridgestone Firestone are all within a mile! Our Hotel is near area attractions and easy access to Rivian Motors - Prairie Aviation Museum - Grossinger Motors Arena - Illinois Fire Juniors Soccer Club - Illinois State University - Wesleyan University - Heartland College - Lincoln College - OSF Saint Joseph Hospital - Carle Bromenn Hospital.

Poor Service, Unsafe Room

Original room we checked into had a noticeable gap between door and frame. We did not feel comfortable with this and asked for a different room. The one we were offered was “in rougher shape and not one of the remodeled rooms” Room 117. According to the person checking us in. While the room was clean, the repairs and maintenance needed for the room is significant.
Enough so that I wondered how they were willing to let the room be occupied. Beyond trying to meet numbers. I have a few years of experience in the field so I understand and don’t need the most up to date room. But peeling wallpaper, dim lighting, chips/marks in the tub and a door that can be opened WITHOUT using the key is quite a bit. As for the door, we recorded being able to do this. Breakfast was fine and what you’d typically get at Holiday Inn.
My last note is for late check out. We had an event later in the day and a late check out would’ve really benefited us. Even an additional hour would’ve been appreciated. I asked twice. The first time, I was told to check back later. The second time, I was told I’d have to check with the lead housekeeper in the morning. A little surprised that a guest would be told this but that’s what happened. At that point, why’d ask again and beg for just one additional hour?
Unfortunately, for a property who is undergoing remodeling construction to ask their guests to be patient and understanding, none of that was afforded to myself or my guests. Our concerns and issues were not adequately addressed and for the hotel to have a room like ours and allow it to be occupied by their guests is quite concerning. As such, we cannot recommend this hotel and recommend trying a different one, even if you have to drive a few extra minutes.

Bad experience.

Was treated badly at the time of check out. Was told we used something from the minibar, which we never did. They won't believe us !!! Was told it was for Rs300, I paid Rs 500, last thing I wanted to get late for my ride to the airport. Never experienced anything like that at any place of stay previously. They need to trust the customers especially for such trivial things.

Light pollution, wear eye mask!

Overall, it's not a bad stay, I'd say just average or slightly above average. The bed is a tad bit too soft to me.
However my biggest dislike is about the light pollution, there are just way too much light bleed through into the room.
1. the light on the balcony is too bright, and the curtain is not black-out enough to block the window.
2. the door can use some weather stripping at the bottom, the light that shine through the bottom crack is like a LED strip.

The building is very old. Given the location they are probably very limited with any change to the original structure. It’s been updated inside. The main problem I had was the price. The night before this stay I stayed at a Candlewood in Bowling Green for less than half the price and the experience was twice as good! I know prices vary by the area and event but that’s just nuts!

Disappointing Experience and Poor Customer Service

We booked a standard/flexible room at Holiday Inn Express & Suites through the IHG app for a Friday night stay, checking in around midnight. Upon arrival, we were assigned a mobility accessible (handicapped) room, which we did not like especially because of the specific shower design in that room.
We immediately returned to the front desk to request a switch to any room that was not handicapped. The front desk staff claimed there were no other rooms available. However, when we checked the IHG app in real time for that exact hotel, we saw at least two rooms still available (both 1 King and 2 Queen bed options) that were not marked as accessible.
Despite telling this to her, she continued to insist that no rooms were available. On top of that, she was unwelcoming, dismissive, and acted arrogantly, making the experience even more frustrating.
When we asked for a refund due to our decision not to stay under those conditions, she told us she would inform the manager and have someone follow up with us. Unfortunately, this never happened. I called the hotel again the next day and was told once more that the manager would be informed and would contact us. It’s now been over a week, and we have received no response.
This experience was incredibly disappointing, not just due to the room situation but more so because of the lack of professionalism, transparency, and customer service from the staff. We’ve stayed at many Holiday Inn Express locations before and have never encountered such an unhelpful attitude.
We hope IHG reviews this location’s practices and ensures that other guests don’t have to go through the same experience.

Counter staff at check in couldn't care less. When leaving the different person was friendly though. Place was dirty and rooms in need of an update. Except the fancy new reception area, which I spent 5 minutes in. Prioritizing the rooms and cleanliness would be better.

It had a bug in room 204. I had to killed it. I wasn’t happy about finding the bug. I also let the front know but I didn’t even get an apology. I even took a picture of it and showed it to the front desk. I am very disappointed because when I travel to Texas I stay there.

Disappointing

I like booking with Holiday Inn because of your dependable quality, service, and cleanliness. However, I was disappointed in my most recent stay. There was a candy wrapper on the floor and 4 jack daniel bottle caps in the nightstand drawer next to the holy bible. The tissue box was completely empty. The tub leaked and the toilet had stains. The USB ports were all broken and I was unable to charge my phone. The beds were not comfortable and felt like they were covered in plastic or something hard. If I were not so exhausted and hadn’t lugged in my stuff, I would have walked right out. The staff member who checked me in was wearing a champion hoodie and not easily identifiable as a hotel employee. I had to wait for someone to find her initially to be helped as well. This particular location discredits the Holiday Inn name and standard.
