Dirty Hotel

This was an uncomfortable hotel experience. We stayed to be close to a dance competition. The first room we were assigned was filthy. Toothpaste all over the sink area. We moved rooms. The next room appeared "cleaner" at first look but then we discovered a random sock on the floor, bugs, hair (not from a head) on the "clean" towels, hair all over the bathroom, toilet visibly unclean, and sticky substances on the bathroom floor. I posted some pictures but was only able to attach 6. We cleaned with Clorox wipes and they were very dirty. There was a room down the hall with 40 people as reported to me by staff. People kept coming in and out and the door slammed every time. The floor reeked of mari juana (the system won't allow me to write the name). The pool was so overrun with people that my kids didn't even feel comfortable going. I reached out to staff and was texted at 3:28 AM that I was given some points. The cost for the condition of this room was highway robbery. We were so uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave at 9 am. The younger staff on was nice but I was never contacted by management even though the staff said they would inform them so unfortunately I feel I need to leave this review to make others aware of the state of this property and the lack of concern from management.

Failed in Cleanliness and Customer Service

When I arrived at check-in time, my room was not ready and I waited over an hour causing me to miss a reservation I had at a restaurant. Upon entering the room, we noticed the A/C was broken and called for the repair man. After he worked on it we noticed the top of the ice container on the floor and he picked it up and put it on the desk like it was nothing. I texted the customer service agent and she said "sorry for the inconvenience". It wasn't inconvenient it was unsanitary and showed the room was not thoroughly cleaned. The worst part was taking a shower and reaching for a towel only to see large black streaks of dirt on it similar to tire marks. It was very filthy. I pulled another one only to see a pink makeup-like mark. Also one of the valet drivers wreaked of marijuana leaving a lingering scent in the vehicle. Another one of the valet attendants was rude after asking us a question. The pictures are very misleading as the hotel is unkempt. There were fries on the ground in the hallway and large buckets of open paint. Definitely will not stay here ever again and I do not recommend!

The room was dirty, furniture outdated and broken. Very minimal breakfast with outdated food, including moldy bread! It was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at!!!

A mistake

We booked to stay while traveling for tennis match. Coming in a storm after a match in Arkansas, we weren't greeted by a friendly front desk. She kept shoving food in her mouth and had gall to say that I was a problem when calling her manager. It got better with him. After staying at a Hampton the night before, this room was not even close. There was no space, no phone in the room and a small TV.
It was a walk to where the elevator was. Also this FD person never told us anything, the Mgr did.
Breakfast was ok but the host kept policing us to where we could keep our bags and constantly reminding us that we were lucky she opened breakfast early, so we could compliment her.
As a hotel GM and an operations director over 14 properties in the past, these employees don't look like they have trained properly. Maybe staying away from Holiday Inns!

Lacks True Hospitality

My family and I stopped here on a road trip south.
This property does appear to be struggling.
Maintenence is lacking.
The bathrooms in the lobby appear to be newly renovated but the partitions are pulling out of the walls and the partitions are warping exposing screws create a safety concern.
The door handle in our rooms bathroom was nearly falling off. Front desk sent someone up to tighten it but lock still didnt work properly.

The winners circle bar/restaurant advertised to be open till 10pm. We went down at 8:50 to relax and enjoy a few drinks after a long day of driving. The bartender said he was closing early because he wanted to get home early to avoid a pending storm and wouldn't serve us. We went and sat in the lobby to talk and watched the same bartender serve a beer to another guest that walked up 10 minutes later.
We choose to go the pool where no towels were stocked and available. We went to the front desk to ask for some and they said they would have to bring extra towels to our room and they dont offer pool towels. So we had to go back up to our room grab towels and go back to the pool. Than while we are swimming someone restocked the towel shelf in the pool area.
The buffet breakfast was delicious. Tho you need to get tickets from the front desk. After waiting several minutes at the front desk, someone appeared talking on his cell phone on speaker. They were talking about interest rates on some home mortgage or something. He took my card and gave me the tickets while continuing his conversation on his phone, it just felt unprofessional.
For a property of this size it felt understaffed, unorganized and lacking. It feels like it's given up on creating an atmosphere of true hospitality.

Terrible Experience

Book the room with my IHG points for a concert in the area. Arrived at 3:30 and no rooms were ready ended up with a different room than was booked. Arrive back from concert and found that there was no parking at the hotel. Front desk suggested parking in a fire lane. Decided against worrying about being towed and just left. Tried to get my points back and the hotel said to contact IHG. IHG said they could do nothing for me. Terrible experience overall.

The Holiday Inn has gone downhill - 7th stay

Stay #7 and maybe my last.
One free palapa as a IHG Platinum, one paid palapa for Silver IHG - but we shouldn’t have because we watched people palapa jump everyday to an empty one when told to move as the renter showed up. Told the front desk at checkout, was informed I should have told the towel hut every time I saw it happen.

Ocean/pool showers and foot rinse showers never worked to rinse sand off.
Was told at check in we couldn’t use our permanent keycard bands we had purchased several years ago. “Locks are new and aren’t working consistently” except the locks on the doors didn’t look different than last year. We don’t love the plastic wrist bands we have to wear the entire time.
The rooms look exactly the same as they did the first time we stayed. They are tired and need an update. The “new” patio chairs on the ocean tower are terribly uncomfortable. I spend nights and early mornings on my balcony but couldn’t due to how uncomfortable these chairs are.
What is still good about the HI - the location and the price. You can’t beat it. The beach staff - Smitty and Arturo are two of the nicest guys and hardest workers on the whole island. The waitstaff on the beach is the same. The public areas and grounds are still meticulously kept. The guys at the coffee bar are great. The room was always very clean so the housekeeping staff is still top notch. Beverages and lunch from the pool bar were good but pricey. The pools were fantastic as was the beach. We enjoyed our stay overall but there were some things that caused big disappointment versus our usual stay here. Will we be back? I’m not sure.

Larger hotel and Understaffed

The room was spacious and clean. The daytime front desk gal that checked me in seemed friendly and helpful at first but later proved to not be able to respond to an emergency properly. issue: My grandaughter was swimming in the indoor pool doing laps on deeper side in order to allow the other 10+ kids in the pool to have their space. She pushed off from the wall and apparently cut her foot on the inside of the pool wall. She immediately got out to show me and was bleeding all over the place. There were no towels anywhere like at other IHG pools that I've visited. I told my daughter to run to the front desk and ask for towels and to let the front desk know what happened. The front desk is at most a 1 minute walk, after atleast ten minutes of my daughter not returning I went up there myself. The front desk gave my daughter 3 different first aid kids all of which were not complete and the front desk lady was in a room finally grabbing towels. I asked my daughter if she told the lady there was blood all over and she said yes. We never got neosporin or a big enough bandaid. The lady never gave us antibacterial spray to clean up the pool area nor did she or anyone else clean up! In fact I never saw any other staff at the hotel. Nobody every followed up with me nor asked about what happened. I exclusively stay at IHG hotels and have stayed across the USA and Europe, this hotel was a complete disappointment. Last thing I'll mention, is that the breakfast area is in clear view of the front desk. During our breakfast there were a handful of moms with young daughters sitting on the eating tables brushing and curling their daughters hair getting ready for an event. We had to eat our breakfast in the car because there wasnt any room to sanitarily eat our breakfast.

Left Disappointed

Disappointed in the condition of the room, stopped up sink, dripping shower. Called ahead to ask about pool & hot tub. They drained the pool the day we arrived. Why didn't they know about scheduled repair? We stayed for 4 days and we were told everyday that it would be done that day. May not seem like a big deal, but my 2 kids were disappointed and that was a factor in picking the hotel. We could have switched hotels on day one but I felt lied to every day just to keep us there. The staff at the check-in were not in the "know" of the repair.

Love this Hotel, not the best experience during construction

As a Platinum Elite IHG member I usually can get a room upgrade, late checkout or a welcome bonus. None was offered at check-in and when I asked about the amenities that were closed (Pool Table and other areas) because of construction they said there was nothing that can be done (maybe offer free parking since we paid full price for access to so little that the hotel offers). Hopefully the construction is completed soon and we can try this hotel again (The 2 room suites offer a great option for a family of 4/5 in Long beach).
