Legit question. Because that is exactly how it felt.
After a month-long vacation staying exclusively at IHG properties, we felt like we checked in to the Twilight Zone. We felt what we were experiencing couldn't be real. Our second night there, we read other online reviews, obviously something we should have done before booking. The previous reviews validated exactly what we were enduring. We were told there "was no soap" upon requesting. But we couldn't shower anyway, because "the boiler was out" and there was no hot water. The lobby, eating area, elevators and hallways were so cold we could see our breath. They advertise breakfast, but we were told there may or may not be breakfast in the morning, or ever again, because for some unknown reason there hadn't been that morning. There was, but the breakfast area opened 45 minutes late, and every breakfast item was stone cold. There was one surly person presiding, seated with a tip jar in front of her, who did not offer any service, just rude comments. We then learned breakfast would be $17.50. Each. We complained, and the staff grudgingly did not charge us for serving ourselves stone cold eggs. On a positive note, we did have two towels, and they did not have bugs embedded in them as in previous reviews and pics. And our door lock worked. This also is an ongoing problem dating back months. We saw first hand a couple being moved because their room door lock was faulty. I am surprised the chamber in Memphis allows this business to remain in operation, when climate control and safety appear to continue to be compromised for months. Management writes flowery responses to these reviews, but in fact does not remedy the serious and potentially harmful issues, as they continue to exist. It potentially puts a blemish on the whole Memphis experience, which this important and historic city does not need, nor deserve.

DO NOT STAY HERE

I had two rooms:
Room 1: no hot water, no wash cloths, no hair dryer, broken toilet, no body wash

Room2: no hair dryer and no phone! Couldn't even call front desk to get a hair dryer!
Laundry: wash machine was faulty. Didn't spin clothes dry- literally no water drained. Then clothes were stuck in machine for a while because maintenance couldn't get the machine door open.
Most front desk people were friendly, except the 2 that were there when I had to tell them all of my issues. They were jot friendly at all. And they texted me to see how my room was but wouldn't reply forniver 4 hours when I told them our issues. I finally had to go to front desk to speak to someone since they wouldn't answer text.
Oh I forgot about this: I spoke to manager and told her I didn't want anyone in my room unless I was there. And I had do not disturb on my door. Maintenance still went in my room!

Ridiculous Front Desk

We were there this past weekend for a college bowling tournament. A lot of the bowlers were looking for somewhere to do homework or eat their team dinner. Some of the parents wanted to sit together and chat. The rude guy at front desk said we aren’t supposed to be in there. I asked why and he mumbled something. Then proceeded to turn off all the lights on us and bowlers doing homework. Why have such a nice, big area of guests cannot use it. We weren’t being loud or messy. Quite the opposite. Not to mention the bowlers quietly sitting in there to do homework. We will have this tournament next year and we will find somewhere else to stay.

Not good for travelers

I didn't know the hotel was quite popular for events, I couldn't sleep the nights I stayed there, there was music and the people next door were super loud till 3 am, I had to call the front desk to get security.
Unfortunately, I understand that is not the hotel's fault, just keep in mind if you're looking for a restful night before/after a flight the Holiday Inn 'Airport' is NOT a good choice.

Sheets were clean

The only positive is that the sheets were clean. The outside entrance and inside lobby are either messy, run-down, outdated, and/or peeling. Staff are not exceptional, they barely looked up or spoke to us. Hallways to our room were littered with trash. Room smells like the building was smoked in historically and the smell was never fully remedied. Bath and shower are so small and outdated and not comfortable at all. Watching tv is a bust, it’s old so no streaming option, no channel guide, no labels, you have no clue what you’re watching. It’s a great thing the breakfast is free because it’s not great. This is not a place you go and feel excited to be staying when you walk in. If I’d have known I would have canceled.

Holiday Inn® Leeds - Garforth hotel is 15 minutes drive from Leeds city centre. There's free parking, and Garforth Station, a mile and a half away, has direct lines to Leeds, York and Scarborough. The M1 motorway is close by, and Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is half an hour drive away.
Six miles away, in Leeds city centre, you can see jousting re-enactments at the Royal Armouries Museum or come face to face with the Leeds Tiger at the Leeds City Museum. If you prefer the countryside, you're only an hour drive from the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors. The hotel's 19 meeting rooms can host up to 300 delegates. The free WiFi throughout the hotel helps you keep up with work. Thorpe Park, home to IBM and Northern Foods, is just over a mile from the hotel, and the local Cross Flats Industrial Estate is also close by.

Very lovely clean but not a good nights sleep

The room was very clean- the bathroom was recently refurbed and modern. We had everything we needed in the room, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, body wash, shampoo, clean towels and a tv with many channels. There was also tea coffee and sugar. The swimming pool was very quiet and the sauna and Steam
Room were a nice surprise although the kids pool needs a good clean and to be updated in the changing rooms as the cupboards were falling to bits. The restaurant had run out of many drinks and food they didn’t have any ketchup either due to a stock issue. The young male serving us went above and beyond to help in these circumstances. The noise in the room was very loud as someone was playing loud music until early hours which kept waking myself and my young son up. Reception didn’t answer the phone or my emails, so unfortunately we both had little sleep.

Poor hotel and billing issues

First off the room had;1 broken lamp in hotel room, desk lamp outlets did not work, only one outlet between the beds worked, and the wet bar faucet was attached with spackling (did not work).
In stead of charging first night room and tax upon arrival they charged it as a no-show.
Breakfast was limited at best.

Essentials are expected in a convenience market. Especially hygienic supplies. Why were there THREE different types of condoms available and ZERO feminine hygiene supplies? Sometimes nature arrives early or unexpectedly. No liners, no pads, no tampons. Nothing. Unacceptable.
