Musty & Damp Room That Required Room Switch - Do Not Book

Our room was not ready for check in until after 4pm. When we entered our room, we noticed an off smell. We figured that it might be from cleaning, but the next day, the room was still musty, mildewy and damp. None of our towels or bathing suits dried at all in the course of 24 hours (everything was still soaking). We had to go to the front desk to ask if they experienced this type of smell before (they weren't surprised that I asked) and they switched us to another room. Looking back, it appeared as if we had to wait for our original musty room as the staff attempted to "slap a band aid" on a problem room on the first floor. The new room was adequate, but the next day, we had to go back to the front desk since neither of our key cards worked. Every day I had to deal with the front desk about something, and I am typically a low-maintenance customer (I've never had to switch rooms for a problem). I would NOT recommend this hotel, especially until they figure out what is causing this musty smell in rooms and also the lobby. I understand there are renovations underway, but I will not be returning.

A friendly, contemporary Harlow hotel near Stansted Airport and trains to Central London
Set in the thriving town of Harlow on the border of Essex and Hertfordshire, Holiday Inn Express® Harlow hotel is 15 miles from Stansted Airport , with easy access to the M11 motorway. Harlow Town Station is a 20-minute walk away, where you can take a 35-minute train ride to London Liverpool Street Station or catch the Stansted Express to the airport. A major hub for buses and coaches, Harlow Bus Station is right next to the hotel.
Corporate guests are less than 10 minutes' drive from Harlow Enterprise Hub , and the Harlow Business Exhibition is held in Town Park on the hotel's doorstep. Three elegant meeting rooms host up to 42 delegates, with audiovisual equipment and catering services.
Popular attractions in Harlow include Gibberd Garden and Gibberd Gallery in the Civic Centre, and you can follow Harlow's Sculpture Trail as you shop along the pedestrianised Broadwalk . What a shambles

Terrible. Two stars out of ten and both are for the staff, who were terrific. Grace in particular was great. They showed good humour and patience under extreme provocation, given the circumstances they are expected to work in. The hotel is in the middle of major works. The car park is closed. The road to the hotel is closed at night, meaning you have to call to be told how to get in to the place. None of this is mentioned in the current description of the hotel online and you dont find out until 24 hours after you have booked, which means the poor staff have to put up with countless irate customers. They should be given medals by Holiday Inn, who should just admit defeat and close this place down.

Terrible breakfast and was burnt. Also over charging on stays when told room rate was a certain amount. One night was $586 when told 140ish.

Mortifying & Discriminatory Guest Experience

Humiliatingly, the general manager at this hotel by name of Elena Kim as well as the housekeeper whom was responsible for cleaning the room I was assigned to are deplorable liabilities to the IHG corporation as well as Buckhead America Hospitality and Mogar Farm Funding, LLC.
On the day of Wednesday February 26, 2025, Elena checked me into a disgusting room in which was beyond the bounds of unclean encompassing urine in rhe commode and soiled bed sheets offering no formality of wholesome resolution.
Furthermore, the following day, she demanded I came into her office and I communicated I was uncomfortable and was able to discern she did not want to speak with her in the lobby vicinity out of fear other guest would hear how horrendous the hotel is being ran.
To conclude, the hotel staff also discriminated against many Certified Service Animal and disposed my insulin as a diabetic.

The weekend started out with us going to our room. The floor appeared to have dried drywall dust on the carpet of the room. The foor rest for the recliner had dirty footprints on it. We were able to clean the foot rest but unable to clean the carpet completely. There appeared to be some sort of construction going on outside of our room since the ceiling was opened up in 2 spots. There were no construction workers on site. The smoke detectors outside our room had plastic coverings on them. Both the open ceiling in an exit path and the covered smoke detectors are a fire code violation. The stair well handrail from our floor to 1st floor was only attached in 2 spots.
When we returned from supper, the hotel seemed to be over run by middle school students there for a basketball tournament. The parents and children had taken over all public areas of the hotel. We were not able to use the pool or hot tub since both were taken over by young children. We returned to our room and decided to turn in for the night. Kids were running up and down the hallways on our floor and the floor above us until well after 10:30 pm. This all happened both nights of our stay.
Overall, we were unimpressed with our stay. We know some of this was due to the parents not watching their kids however, I feel the staff could have made accommodations for groups this big to have space of their own so other guests could enjoy the hotel too.

Needs to be maintained

Got evacuated because a pipe burst and sent condensation down the hallway. Didn’t have hot water for a shower. Paid full price for not a good nights sleep.
Teenagers running down the hallway with no supervision.
In NNY winters, I would expect things like pipes would be inspected more often to avoid this issue.

I would not be staying at this hotel ever again. Paid way too much for one night for my room not be cleaned. They made the room to appear clean but after pulling back the sheets it was clear it was not. The shower had hair all in it as well .

The family room was booked for 3. There was no space to move around, so we had to wait for each other to move around the room! There was not a single chair in the room (in fact, where is the space for the chair?). We had to put food, cups, plates and stuff on a sill under the TV, and we sat on the bed and ate on the bed. It was not a nice arrangement at all.
Breakfast ran out. We arrived for breakfast 30 minutes before it ended and when I challenged the empty bowls I was told we should have come out early as they had to stop cooking at some point to avoid waste.
So that means even though your breakfast is included you may get there and meet next to nothing because you didn't come on time (absolutely ridiculous!) I called them out on this nonsense arrangement and I made sure I had a decent meal. The whole conversation was just not my forte, it was a waste of energy for me.
I have been to different Holiday Inns, this is not a good value for money in my opinion, It's a visit/experience I am trying to forget to be honest.

We checked into this facility and immediately checked back out! The front desk staff was very unfriendly. Did not greet us in any way or communicate well. We arrived at our assigned room number, which we only knew from reading what was written on the room key envelope, and neither entry key worked. My family, I and all of our belongings went back to the lobby and explained the keys were not working. She offered no explanation or apology! She exchanged the room keys, at which point we realized by reading the envelope, that she had initially assigned us to the wrong room. Back upstairs, we had a further walk to our room this time, and we noticed how dark and dingy the hallways were. The carpet was stained and dirty as if it had not been vacuumed for a while. We entered our room, and could see the beds were sunken in the middle with the head and feet elevated. My husband went to retrieve a few more of our belongings from the car and encountered a group of undesirables entering the facility. At this point he returned to our room and announced that he did not feel comfortable staying the night in this facility. We went to the front desk to request a refund and check out. We were told a refund could not be issued and to contact Booking.com to initiate a refund. So we have done so. Booking.com has reached out to your property but has still not received a response! I'm sorry to say, but it seems to be reflective of your overall customer service! One other thing to mention is that we were unaware that breakfast was not included. We were told we could pay $10 per person to eat breakfast, but only two people were allowed to eat. We are a family of three. We stayed at another hotel for the evening based upon poor customer service, dingy and dirty accommodations and an unsafe environment, especially for a family.
