My Stay at Holiday Inn Express

The room was very nice, it had the roll-in shower as requested. I was disappointed somewhat, thinking that I requested a suite with two beds, the room only had one bed, which was difficult for my wife to get in and out of the bed. She is handicapped and the bed was several inches too high, so she needed help in getting in and out of the bed.
There was a motor running all the time. I could hear it in the room but in the bathroom it was noticeable. I did not get any sleep for the 48 hours I was a guest.

Booked this hotel for a weekend away from home. For the price I paid, I really expected a better quality stay. You could hear other guest from down the hallway, through the walls. I really would have expected more out of the employees regarding wearing mask, since it was posted that mask are required. The few staff members that did wear them did not wear them properly. Only made me question the sanitation of the rooms.

Was great, still great, not so great..

I’m very disappointed in these hotels. I stay at hotels most of the year, and HIE has always been a great place to stay because of the many amenities that that had offered. But sadly no more due to t he sake of “safety”, they no longer have a hot breakfast, no more swimming, no more gym room, no more room service, I have to place the trash and dirty linens outside in the hallway, I’m sure there is more I haven’t listed.
The rooms are still clean and comfortable, and are still the best place to unwind after a hard day. I do miss the other amenities that used to go along with the stay.
So in short HIE was a great place to stay, still a great place, not so great...

As a customer and a travel agent I would not recommend this location. My shower did not have a handle to turn on the shower. I was told at check in that there was hot breakfast but an attendant would serve us. The website stated the WIFI was free but it was locked and no login information was provided. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job.

Week long Stay Uncomfortable

StayBridge Hotels are wonderful hotels. During COVID they have made some changes that work and don't work for long term stays. Breakfast attendants are a great addition to this problem however. Maybe making sure they don't raise their voice to the guests as we may have never had someone serve us buffet food before. Changing sheets at least once during a week long stay would good. Maid service that would come around and check on you and not make you take your own trash out at the end of your stay.

We've stayed at this hotel in the past before its recent renovation. I had high hopes that its recent renovation would yield a "new hotel" experience. I was disappointed.
The floor in the hallway and in our room was wavy and uneven. Although the bed was very comfortable, the rest of the furniture in the room had an "Ikea" feel to it. There were two hangars in the closet when we first arrived. The blackout shade was either poorly installed, or the building is not square. Either way, the shade would not go up and down and stay in the track. I was looking at the outside of the building and it looked like several other rooms had the same problem with their shades.
We had arranged for housekeeping on our 2nd day between 10AM and 3PM while we were absent from the room. That never happened. We were profusely apologized to for the error and told that we would receive additional points for the mistake. So far, no additional points have been credited to our account.
There was a large group of high school kids in the hotel making noise in the adjoining room and in the hallway until midnight each night.
Despite all that I've said, I will say that the staff was very friendly.

Bed was comfortable

There was no hand soap at the bathroom sink and the Watkins shampoo was empty at arrival. Notified the front desk and was told that they were waiting on a shipment. I asked everyday about the soap and shampoo. I never got the hand soap and it took 3 days to get the shampoo. My coworker asked for a breakfast box one morning at 6:25 am and was to that he had to wait until 6:30, we just left because we had to get to the job site. I was told at check-in that After 5 days I could get my room cleaned, but I would have to request it.

Terrible Mask Compliance

Your website states as follows: "In addition, effective Monday, July 27, face coverings will be required in all indoor public spaces at our hotels in US and Canada." At my stay Nov. 20-21, this was observed during my stay at the Holiday Inn Express Hotels & Resorts Chesapeake (Va.) only by the guests. The staff members typically wore their masks only under their chins, if at all. I saw a housekeeper walk around a room she was cleaning without a mask and talking on her phone. I saw another staff member in the stairs with a mask only under his chin. Same with the front desk person when I checked in. And when I checked out, I told the front desk person I was disappointed with the mask compliance, and she asserted the compliance was good -- even though at the time she was wearing her mask under chin and it was not covering her mouth or nose! I pointed that out to her, and at least she then put up her mask to cover her mouth and nose. My good friend who stays at lots of HI Expresses on the West Coast assured me that HI Expresses have excellent mask compliance. I wish that had been the case at the Holiday Inn Express Hotels & Resorts Chesapeake (Va.).
