Bad Experience - Amatuer Performance

Ill try and keep this as short as possible but a lot to cover, sadly. Whilst some complaints in their own right my not warrant a complaint, together they paint a picture of a pretty amatuer hotel. To set the scene, 5 year anniversary, spa booked, and brought our 2.5 year old daughter along with us for a nice family break.

Arrived at 12.30 for Spa appointments arranged from 1-3pm. Told our room wasnt ready. But we have spa appointments booked for 1pm? Had to push him to check for a similar room that WAS ready. There was. The one across the hall. Got key cards. Due to refurb work we are up and down at least 4 sets of stairs, with a pram. Perhaps the hunt for a new room could have involved looking for one closer to reception. Nope, so pram duely hauled all the way there. Got there, couldnt have been in a further corner of the hotel if they tried. Both key cards didnt work. Back to reception. Back to the room. We booked King Deluxe Room. Got in. It was a double and there was nothing deluxe about it. It was about as standard a double room you can get. Bog standard. Called reception, informed it was superior, which wasnt even an option on the website! And from experience superior tends to mean double. By this time it was time to go to the Spa. Stopped off at reception, handed back key cards. Promised to find another room. Spa was outstanding. Great staff, great treatments. Very relaxed. Finsihed and went for lunch. Our chicken ceaser salad was served without.........yes you guessed it. It took 15 minutes to provide us one that did have chicken. Back to reception. Its 4.30pm. Allocated a new room! Nice. Got there, our stuff isnt there. It hasnt been transferred to the new room. Back to reception. I que behind a lady checking in. The receptionist is complaining to the lady about how since the Crown Plaza takeover the staff have lost their freedom. "we used to be like birds that could flap their wings. Now we are [makes restricted gesture with arms tight down to his side]" The woman didnt seem impressed. My turn. Stuff still in old room. Handed a key card to go get and move our baggage and pram myself! They were busy....So I did. Hauled our things to the new room. The missus is on the phone reporting that the TV doesnt work. Maintenance came to fix. Went to chill some champagne in the fride. fridge was warm. Went to switch on heating. 20 minutes later realised it was blowing cold air. No settings worked. Kept jumping back to cold regardless of what setting we chose. Reported it and 20 mins later the manager arrived. She couldnt fix it. Went away to "reset something". 20 mins later still blowing cold. Called reception. Please leave it another 20 mins. Did, still didnt work. Requested heaters. 20 mins later no heaters. Left room to complain. Bumped into manager and explained the whole experience. She said would arrange heaters and "see what she can do for us regarding our stay". She didnt. We didnt hear from her again. 5 minutes later the receptionist arrives with 2 heaters. 20 minutes after that the heaters take effect and finally we are warm. For the last 2 hours the missus and the daughter have been under the douvet trying to keep warm. Then.....a knock at the door. The receptionist shows up with 2 more heaters. The hole time throughout this it was difficult to get through to reception. Oh did I bring you them already. Yes, as I point to the heaters. Oh, yes, I did. OK bye. Just bizarre. Its now 7pm. Book dinner. When I say earlier the manager didnt do anything for us thats not totally accurate. For desert we were served "happy anniversary" in chocolate sauce with some mint biscuits. It was nice and we were glad they remebered. (p.s I ordered a side of veg with my steak and wasnt served it. By the time it arrived my steak was cold, but by then that was par for the course, I still ate and enjoyed my steak). Throughout dinner the little one was asleep in the pram next to us so, dinner was in fact on the whole quite nice.

The next day breakfast was excellent. Checked out. No apology for the issues. Bill paid and taxi booked. I'm not the complaining type but that really wasnt good. The end.

Overnight spa break

I came with my daughter for an overnight stay to relax. The room was very comfortable and clean. Bed also comfy.
The staff at reception were a little cold so it wasn't a great start and made us feel that we were doing them a favour to be honest.
The waiter though at dinner was excellent. My daughter is vegan and he gave her lots of options by adapting the menu to suit her.
We had a great massage each and enjoyed the spa. It was overall clean but was spoiled by having lots of empty paper cups around. No one seemed to come to clear up and there was no option of a bin to put them in!
Overall we had a nice time but I am not sure if I would come again.

Attentive staff

Although there is building works going on for the refurbishment it did not interfere with our stay, the staff were very attentive and polite, nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was to a high standard and very tasty, our brekfast was fresh and hot.

Минусы: в номере мало мебели - в шкафу 50 см шириной в номере для двоих - только полка для головных уборов и плечики для верхней одежды и блузок/рубашек, полок для другой одежды нет совсем, одежду пришлось хранить в чемодане. Очень неудобно. Были в начале февраля - в номере было прохладно. Отсутствие интернета в номере. На завтрак не было ничего горячего.
Плюсы - месторасположение, чисто, уютно, скромные, но хорошие завтраки, очень вежливый и вышколенный персонал. Для недолгих поездок - идеальный вариант.

Great to see that you had a good time with us. We do apologize for the circumstances caused to you regarding the cool room at your stay. You can increase the themperature in your room up to 24°C with our air conditioning.
Also we serve during our continental breakfast variety of bread,rolls,croissants, sausage,cheese, spreading, jam,joghurt, fresh fruits, coffee, tea and juice. You can choose also some hard boiled eggs, which are hot.

Decent once renovation is complete

I stayed midway through the renovation so it was difficult to really judge but it seemed nice.

Room I had was contemporary and clean without really wowing me like other hotels I've stayed in.

Breakfast was a decent spread

Ideal Hotel for Edinburgh

Stayed at this hotel after watching the rugby at Murrayfield, ideal location. Free parking, easy check in and a very relaxed atmosphere. Good value and wry attentive staff.
