Old properties with less than satisfactory services

I am disappointed with the service right from the time of checking in where the reception is cold and unwelcoming. Although we are a diamond member and checking in for 5 nights at the hotel, it doesn't make any different if you are a loyal IHG member. The only consolation is a room upgrade which is accorded to any diamond member regardless of which IHG properties we stay.
During our stay, we had asked for help to make reservation at other restaurants and yet we were told to do it on our own. I guess other than one other IHG property in UK, this is the second time we experienced such a rude reply.
Hotel itself is really old and look tired despite being an IHG property (as compared to the pictures shown on website)
Ms Lu, who works at the club lounge is the only person who took the initiative to assist my wife in navigating the way to a restaurant nearby. She had even followed up with a message after we left the hotel to ensure we reach the destination safely.

Friendly Staff, Clean and Comfortable Facility, Convenient Location

The staff at this hotel were very friendly and helpful to us, both before our arrival and afterwards. The hotel is very clean, comfortable, and conveniently located to both the TPE International Airport (11 miles) and the Taoyuan main railway station (2 miles). Highly recommend!
I was extremely impressed with this hotel. It was perhaps my favorite Holiday Inn Express stay ever. This hotel definitely punches above its weight. As an Ambassador and Diamond Elite member, the gift bag was fantastic, far better than I would have expected. The check-in service was well executed and the staff directed me to late night eats that hit the spot. The staff was able to converse with me in English better than several hotels in the US. The availability of tea, coffee, juice, and snacks all night was great. When I got to my floor the wonderful scent used in the hotel hit me. I wish I could have bought that. The room was compact and efficiently laid out. It was very clean. The bathroom was good, with a powerful shower that was what I needed after a long trip. The staff changed the bed linens the next day and replaced my towels without issue. The breakfast was next level nice. It was better than the breakfasts I have had at most InterContinental’s or other brands in IHG. The self-serve selections were fantastic and plentiful with a salad bar to select from, noodles, a wide variety of hot dishes (the tea eggs were fantastic), the noodles, congee with additions, soup, western selections, and the amazing variety of steamed buns. One of the staff even showed me how to make the noodles. Perfect interaction to make the breakfast experience better. I was stuffed when I left the hotel. Definitely well above what I expect for a Holiday Inn Express breakfast. Having a washer and dryer was very helpful. The hotel had coins and laundry detergent available as well.
