After having stayed at many Intercontinental hotels around the world we were curious to experience an IC-affiliated resort hotel. The rooms were nice and spacious. We were "upgraded" to the next tier which I suspect meant a higher floor as the rooms were the same. The pool deck was really nice and the gym well equipped. COVID safety measures were observed throughout. Yet the hotel fell short of what we are used to in Intercontinental hotels as Platinum (and former Spire) Ambassador members. Firstly, there were no complimentary bottles of water in the room (a standard Ambassador benefit). When I mentioned this at the front desk they said I should have been offered it at check-in. We were told that we needed to ask for it every time at the front desk - they would not replenish it. There was no Nespresso coffee maker in the room. When I inquired why, I was told it was a fire hazard, an explanation I found absurd. When I called room service for two champagne glasses I was informed it had a charge or ~11 USD. I found it ridiculous but agreed; however, the glasses were never delivered. When I mentioned this to the manager the next day, he apologized and promised to have it sent up right away. It never happened. (He did give $30 off our room service bill though for the inconveniences.) The $20 credit benefit could only be used in the bar in the middle of the gambling floor, not at the bar by the pool. Consequently we were not able to use it as our daughter was not allowed in the gambling area. Grab-n-go breakfast was substandard. It usually had a mini-bagel, boiled egg, some grapes and a small piece of carrot cake or muffin, plus coffee. When I also asked for water at pickup they even said I was only supposed to get either coffee or water! Overall, we had a good time and the hotel was surely a unique experience that we liked. However, they would need to up their game for IHG members as well in terms of offering the same benefits and the feeling of appreciation for their loyalty, not only to their own Prestige members, understanding though that this hotel obviously caters for a different clientele.
