Suite bathroom needs upgrade

Overall, the staff was so friendly, courteous, and helpful. Elevator and suite had a foul odor. Our toilet looked nasty, scratched, and was clogging, but we still managed to make things work.

Noisy room

So we stayed on the 9th floor even though we requested a lower level as a Platinum Member.
The adjacent buildings roofs are a nesting place for seagulls - very noisy!.
Breakfast ran out of hash browns and milk for 2 days.
Staff were apologetic however how can such an IHG hotel run out of breakfast items (we had breakfast at 7am)
The elevator was very slow so a lot of waiting to go up or down.

A modern waterside hotel close to Cardiff Bay and the city centre, with free Wi-Fi, on-site parking and included Express Start Breakfast
With its handy location between Cardiff Bay and the city centre, and overlooking Bute East Dock, Holiday Inn Express® Cardiff Bay hotel makes a convenient base. It's a mile from Cardiff Central railway station and 10 minutes on foot from Cardiff Bay station . It's a five-minute walk to the nearest bus stop, where you can catch the Cardiff Baycar bus into the city. Cardiff International Airport (CWL) is half an hour's drive away.

Lack of knowledge about assistance dogs so discriminated against disability

The manager lacked knowledge about registered assistance dogs and asked me to move so ‘dog hair from the seating area didn’t reach the buffet’. This was discriminatory. Human hair is more likely to fall into the food! Dog was no where near the buffet.

My wife and I visited as part of our 25 year anniversary celebrations. This is a hotel of two halves. If you have the budget the views out to sea are some of the best. If you book a standard room it's just another hotel in a very noisy and incredibly commercial area. The price between the two is considerable. Fortunately we secured possibly the best room in the property. The top floor on the furthest corner from the entrance. We could sit on our balcony and watch the birds and otters playing in the water.
So why the negative review? On our first night we noticed a protective floor covering being laid. The following morning my wife and I were woken at 6.00 by maintenance workers adjacent to our room. I did inform reception and they offered to waive our parking charges. However, there was a repeat at 6.00 the following day accompanied by drilling at 7.30. This time I raised the issue with the manager.. I was promised further compensation. A grand total of $50 was credited to my bill against a 3 night stay costing up to a thousand dollars a night. I realise this issue was probably a one off but it is how it was (or was not) dealt with. Maybe a note to guests explaining what was going on would have been in order.
To add to our woes the valet misplaced our car after checking out and we had to wait for 50 minutes in reception while they located it. The final disappointment was having to email the hotel to obtain a receipt for our stay only to find no points had been credited. Even as IHG Platinum Ambassadors my wife and I would choose a different brand if we were to visit Monterey again. A very poor experience.

I wanted to address prior to writing a review that I think the staff is wonderful and attempts were greatly appreciated!
This stay I would rate 2 out of 5. I did call in ahead of time regarding my stay emphasizing that we are arriving from long travels and to please place us in a room that is in the quietest area of the hotel. We just really wanted to rest. Unfortunately we were placed, I consider, the noisest area of the hotel. We stayed in room 318 right above the lounge area and the public restrooms! We heard guest in the night and early morning for breakfast. We constantly heard people flushing toilets and going in and out of the bathrooms all throughout our stay. We completely were aware that the hotel was close to the freeway not a huge issue for us but the other disturbances I felt could have been refrained considering I did call in explaining our intentions for our stay. I was unable to get a good night's rest and sleeping in wasn't an option for us hearing breakfast being set up and guest walking through that area. Again staff was super nice, however the execution failed tremendously.

A little stressful finding out that your hotel was closing for renovations during your trip and they didn’t inform anyone. Spent 4 days not knowing where I was going to stay. The hotel tried to relocate me to Sydney, not the beach where I was paying to stay. Unfortunate they knew for a month and said they didn’t have Delta Vacation or my contact information…and I’m an IHG rewards member. Nice staff and beautiful views. Would have been 10 stars if I had stayed the whole time.

Overcharge me additional $500 without discussing it with me. I had to check my bank account and see the transaction. I called and asked what’s the charges and they said that because there was a missing office chair?! Why would I steal an office chair?!!

Subpar…

The BAD…one elevator and it was used by guests and housekeepers, no air conditioning in hallways, no wash cloths were available for replacement during a 3-night stay, had to ask for missing breakfast items to be replaced;
ROOM EXPERIENCE --> noisy air conditioning wall unit, hot water made a “screaming sound”, unable to change desk clock to correct time, low toilets.
The GOOD…friendly and welcoming front desk staff, ample parking, very comfortable bed with soft and firm pillows.
