Read the reviews before you stay

I wish I would have read the reviews before booking. The “valet” is ridiculously priced and the room is disgusting and looks nothing like the photos. We literally went to the cruise port 2 hours early to sit in our car just so we could get out of the room. I think we each only got about 2-3 hours of sleep because the walls were paper thin and the road noise was so loud even on the 5th floor. The only good parts of our stay were the funny bartenders, my teenager liked watching the fancy cars go by in the street below, and it was close to CVS so I was able to run in and get something I forgot to bring. I am an IHG member and we always enjoy our stays so this was something we weren’t used to from their hotel group. This hotel needs some major updating.

First of all I want to begin this review by saying the option to drop off your luggage prior to your check in is a great option and the staff that handled the drop off process was great.
We call the hotel prior to our departure from our cruise to see about an earlier check in and they said it would be an additional $50 dollars which was fine. We got to the hotel around 1030 and they said it would be about an hour. Checked back with the front desk in an hour then they said it would be around noon. So we waited until noon. Then they said they didn’t have any early check ins. They should have informed us about that in the first place so we could have checked our bags sooner and went exploring until our room was ready. We got in our room around 3pm and it had a funny smell and the windows had moss on them. It was not very clean very old and outdated. Unfortunately we had booked two nights before our flight home. They advertise a huge picture in their lobby of a Mariners Bar and Grill in the hotel, which it is no longer that and the menu was not the same as advertised. We went there for dinner the first night. Big mistake we had a steak salad, steak dinner and coconut shrimp appetizer and cheese cake for dessert. The vegetables with the dinner were out of a frozen bag of mixed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and the salad had fried onions all over it. The shrimp is what you can get at Walmart in the frozen section. Then they charge $18 for a piece of cheese cake from the frozen isle. Do not eat there. Our dinner was over $150 dollars crazy. Then the next day we wanted to do some laundry as they have laundry facilities and they told us to just come down to the front desk to get change. So I went to get some quarters and soap but they only had five dollars in quarters and we needed to do two loads each load cost $2.50 per wash and dry. They said come back at ten and they should have more change then. I went down at ten and they of course did not have any change, but a very kind guest gave me $1.75 so I could at least finish my laundry. Later that night I tried calling the front desk but the phone did not work so I had to go down to the front desk to get shampoo and they came back with conditioner saying that’s all he could find. The gym equipment was poor quality missing parts. We were extremely disappointed in this hotel and will not stay here again.

Welcome to the Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown! Take a step back in time in our 19th century historic Guardian Bank Building built in 1896. Hot water was a problem in this hotel; however, the communication was the biggest problem.

There was no hot water the entire time we stayed at the hotel. The first day when we took showers we thought it was just coincidental and may have been affected by other rooms taking hot showers. We decided to wait and take showers after our visit to downtown Charleston. When we got back, there was still no hot water. It was late so we thought well we’ll just take our showers in the morning. When we got up the next day. There was still no hot water. I went down and notified the front desk and they were unaware of the situation. While I waited, they contacted maintenance who confirmed yeah there’s been hot water issues. We know this kind of thing happens at hotels, but really what could’ve or should’ve happened was that the front desk should have notified the guest staying in the hotel that there were problems with the hot water heater or boiler or whatever it was that gives you hot water in your room. Instead, they chose to not communicate this issue customer service is still important! As a gold elite member, I travel a lot for business and I used my hotel points to book this day for my wife and I to get away to Charleston. I don’t think this is indicative of IHG or the Avid brand; however, probably more management and or customer service practices.

Worst experience

The shower gad lots of black mold (I have photos). A large wooden part of the sink fell on my foot. It cut my foot and I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding. I requested a manager and first aid kit. A maintenance man came and provided a couple alcohol wipes and band aid. He duct taped the large wooden board to the front of the sink (I can provide photos). I was concerned it would fall again on my child. I requested an incident report. I received a lot of pushback and I had to call corporate and they called the front desk advising them to offer documentation which they finally gave me a form to complete. I was told documentation had already been completed “internally” and after requesting a copy of that 3x, it was just a Gmail email sent to the GM that was printed out. I requested a new room, they were sold out. They switched us to a “sister hotel” around the corner. We walked into our new room and there were ants all over the floor (I have photos) and then we were moved to a third room. We never received an apology. The front desk staff were initially very rude and not wanting to acknowledge the situation. They were not equipped with a first aid kit. I was told several times that the manager wouldn’t be in until Monday. Finally, they said “the manager said he will contact you this evening (3/22) if that’s okay”. It’s now 3/23 and I have not received any calls, my refund is still in process but I have not seen the money in my account yet. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had

Whatever you do, don’t call the 800 number. They mistakenly cancelled my room in Houston and I was left with nowhere to stay. At Waller, The rooms were holiday inn express quality. This came at a surprise as the common areas were full of signs of extreme wear and an old facility. Breakfast room chairs in dire need of re covering, paint around elevator was see through, rugs torn around edges from extreme wear, bleach stains throughout the hallways. I left for the store and came back to my door cracked open. The front desk advised me,” sometimes when it’s windy or humid our doors don’t shut right.” She happily moved me to another room. Still unnerving. The bathroom showed signs of repair around the toilet. Nonetheless, the beds were clean and comfortable as usual. Breakfast was typical of express. Still would not stay again. Drive on to the next express.

Desperately needs updating

I wish I could find something good about this property. The rooms are in desperate need of updating. The TV didn’t work, most of the outlets didn’t work. There are no usb outlets. The bathtub was so clogged that we had to wait 40+ minutes for it to drain and the bathroom door wouldn’t shut all the way. There were no linens for the pullout and when we went to the front desk for said linens they gave us a flat sheet and blanket. Not the best stay we’ve had with IHG.

Upscale All Suite Hotel located in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio

Our free shuttle operates in a generous 5 miles radius from the hotel and takes you to local businesses, shops, and dining. Stayed here 3 nights with son and nephew. Son and nephew drive nice Ford trucks. Both were broken into and vandalized. They have a sign out from police dept stating don’t leave anything out or you loose it. We got to experience the high crime are. Staff seemed not to care either. Rooms are old and smelly. All dishes were dirty. Furniture fabric not nice. Value we paid was not worth the stay. Would ever stay here again.
