Comfortable bed but woeful check in experience

Reception was the worst we have ever experienced in our lives. The person who checked us in should not be front of house dealing with the public/tourists it is not a good look for our city.A dirty sock from a previous guest was beside the bed.Breakfast was good,bed very good, air con quite noisy

2nd poor experience in 13 months at this property in West Des Moines

When we tried to shower the morning of our departure there was no hot water for a shower. When we called the front desk to find out the problem the front desk person said it was probably because the hotel was full and he could do nothing about the problem. When we checked out I asked for some consideration on our room rate as we expect hot water for that kind of money. His response was he could not do anything without talking to the manager. That seemed like a hollow response as in our previous stay when they had a water leak and water began to come out of a light fixture in the kitchen ceiling the desk person had no problem issuing a partial refund on our room rate. I also take issue that the reason for no hot water was the hotel was full. Are we to believe the expectation is the hotel will never be full so the water system does not need to accommodate a full hotel??

Most uncomfortable bed ever!

I have stayed at many Holiday Express Hotels and this one was subpar, to say the least.
We arrived late for check in and when we tried to purchase snacks, there wasn't anyone at the front desk.
Both mattresses in our room were hard and very uncomfortable. The bedding smelled like mothballs.
The fridge was leaning so far forward, we couldn't open it and it wasn't even on!
The pool and hot tub weren't working, my boys were VERY disappointed about that!
Overall, we won't be staying at this location again.

Spacious room but not clean

The hotel was located conveniently near our destination. Check in was quick and the staff was friendly. We were given a room on the second floor. We opted to use the stairs. The stairwell had not been vacuumed.

When we got to our room, we were satisfied with the size of the space. Looking around, we noticed there was a dirty wash cloth left in the shower, and the floor of the tub appeared dirty. The carpet in the main living area had not been properly vacuumed as well.

Breakfast had an array of options, and everything was well stocked and seemed fresh.

The simple things matter.

The check-in process was excellent . When I brought my issues to the staff, they did the best they could to handle things. However,water did not get hot in shower, white powder on sofa, chain to let blind down broken, and TV Remote did not work properly.

Would not stay there again

I had no hot water for two days. Room had practically no functioning outlet. We got moved to Second room, the blinds did not close at all, had the light from the outside light post in my face all night

Highway noise.

Very close to interstate. Loud traffic noise. Also hotel is being converted to HIE from another chain. Hotel and breakfast not up to Holiday inn standard yet. I would not recommend or stay again.

Close to the Parade

Location for parade was excellent staff was friendly had heating and cooling issues in my room they should have moved me had to listen to a whistling heating unit and then I could hear the laundry being done.
