Suffolk, Virginia hotel is close to the home of Planter's Peanuts.
Just off the coast of Virginia, Suffolk is a town with a large number of modern businesses in a historic setting. With our convenient downtown location, you can get to your destination quickly and easily from the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites in Suffolk, VA. With Norfolk just a half-hour away, our Suffolk hotel is close to many government facilities and corporate headquarters. The Joint War fighting Center is just 16 miles from the hotel, while the military port of Portsmouth is just 15 miles away. Also nearby are a Target Distribution Center and a QVC Distribution Center, both of which are four miles from our hotel in Suffolk. The corporate headquarters for Planter's Peanuts , which was founded in Suffolk, is just two miles from our Suffolk accommodations. A premiere location offers leisure travelers convenient access to downtown Suffolk's shopping and restaurants. Our Suffolk hotel is also just two miles from the Planter's Peanuts Center , which offers a look at the history of this favorite American food. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and Lone Star Lakes Park are less than fifteen minutes away. Our hotel in Suffolk provides a number of choice amenities, including an outdoor pool and sauna, fitness center, 24-hour business center, and a free hot breakfast bar. Inconvenienced, No hot water during cold winter morning; Staff didn't seem to care

Now having been a nearly 25-Year World Traveler, I have received much better care, professional behavior, and meaningful customer service from other IHG hotel staff than I recently received here in the USA during my last stay at this Suffolk, VA IHG location.
During my previous stay in December 2024, I booked 5 rooms for me and my party of guest, who were visiting for a church event the next day. Sunday morning, there was no hot water supporting my hotel room prior to my checking out.
Time was of the essence and due to the lack of hot water in my room, I had to take a very cold and uncomfortable shower prior to attending a church service that Sunday morning.
In the 24 years that I've been an IHG Ambassador member, I had never experienced this situation before. Albeit, situations like this do happen from time to time at every hotel, I didn't appreciate being ignored and it is reasonable to expect some professional courtesy from the staff regarding the resolution. I asked the lady at the front desk to please inform manager about my inconvenience and to ask him or her to please add 5000 bonus points to my account for my inconvenience. If needed, please call me to discuss any detailed explanations. My contact information is in the system. No one contacted at all. Approximately 1 month later (January 2025), I called and spoke to a lady, who said that she remembered me and my party and would be happy to notify the manager of my concern and request for compensation because of my inconvenience. No one called.

Bottom line, this is unsatisfactory! I've never felt more neglected, disrespected, and unappreciated than by the IHG staff at this location.
This personal inconvenience and how it was/was not handled reflects badly on the IHG brand as a whole regarding how members and guest are treated.
We deserve better customer care and respectful resolution of issues when they occur.

TV didn’t work & no follow-up

The tv did not work. The front desk said someone would come up to look at it, but that didn’t happen. Entertaining kids in a hotel is already hard enough. Talked with the front desk on my way out, but a manager wasn’t available and there was no follow up.

Not Worth Your Convenience

The quality of the stay has gone down significantly over the past year. It seems this Hotel maximizes on government subsidy for immigrant housing.
The hallways have zero air-conditioning (one way to save money at the expense of the clientele) which allows the smell of funk and cooked food to permeate the halls outside the rooms.
When you walk into the hotel, there's a noticeable lack of air flow and HOT!
Upon entering the room, it was like stepping into a retro type hotel from 1980's. Ugly worn out and stained couch with nicked up cabinetry and end tables.
The rooms flooring had long frayed edges up and down the length of the trim piece from the kitchenet to the living area.
You can smell the sweet smell of black mold within the room when the a/c is on. My breathing changed within the hour.
The a/c did work good, so not all is lost.
The coffee maker was missing completely. I made the front desk aware of it, and for the entire day, noting was done. My second request was more successful.

The customer service is good, as long as you're a "happy" customer. Any type of dissatisfaction, is met with a retaliatory attitude and speech.
I checked out in the early evening, 12 days before my stay was complete, b/c of the condition of the hotel. I was met with, "You'll still have to pay for today! I wont check you out until tomorrow!".... He did not ask ONCE, the "why" to my early departure.
Even though my work place is under a mile from this hotel, I decided to drive another 20 minutes just to have a nice hotel experience.

There just doesn't seem to be a managerial standard or guidance of what it means to be an IHG facility. The standards I've experienced over the past few years with IHG have been far beyond what this hotel represented. But this hotel is not even close to what IHG is known for. Cleanliness is supposed to be a top priority, this hotel does not hold to that standard.
They can be assured, I will not be staying there again.

Nice and clean hotel but no microwave in the rooms. There was only one microwave in the lobby for all to use. Had to wait for 30 minutes to warm my food.

Great Service

I stayed at the hotel last year for work. I was impressed with the staff and the amenities and the reliability of the Holiday Inn name. The room was what I expected and was comfortable and clean. The lighting was great for working on my computer. I was happy with the lobby and all it had to offer. I really love the bar / lounge's food. The menu had a selection but still went with a pasta plate from last stay and tried a great appetizer.

Great Hotel

Excellent family friendly hotel

This hotel is excellent for couples and families. The pool area is beautiful and there are many activities within walking distance. Definitely recommend World Food Trucks just down the street for an amazing experience of different cultures of food.

Poor Guest Service

The room was fine lots of amenities. However, the morning staff was rude from day one. They have zero customer service skills. They are not helpful. Also, just so you know if you have a package delivered there they’re charging you. It doesn’t say anywhere. However, they don’t charge everyone! I was behind a guest and they didn’t charge her anything for a two packages however we had two package packages delivered. They charged us three dollars per package. I would rather pay a little bit more money and have friendly encounters with the staff then pay less money and have rude customer service. This is the first time I’ve stayed in this chain and received such poor customer service. However, no bugs room was clean. It was comfortable. They definitely don’t provide enough towels for the number of guests you have registered! And don’t count on getting the number of towels you need in a timely manner. That wasn’t the only bad customer service experience.
